CASC tabled at @oregonprisonbirthproject prison birth simulation, demonstrating the differences that compassionate and caring doulas can make for incarcerated pregnant people during vulnerable moments including giving birth. Although ORS 421.175 (Oregon’s Anti-Shackling and Prison Doula Law) was passed in 2023, pregnant and postpartum incarcerated people are still being shackled, especially within the jail system. There is a loophole within the law that allows prison institutions to define what safety means without a clear definition for accountability. @oregonprisonbirthproject and partners are organizing to clean up the bill and to fully end the use of restraints during pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum recovery. Continue to show up to the events they offer and see how you can support. The louder our voices are, the more change is possible!

As a way to support @oregonprisonbirthproject , we collaborated with @entangledrootspress and @practice_rebellion on beautiful screen prints to fundraise for OPBP. We are still selling some prints and patches so if interested, reach out!!

Lastly we included this new book that is coming out regarding caregiving within and outside the prison system from @motheringisradical. END PRISON BIRTH NOW. Birth justice for everybody!

❥ 3k masks distro-ed from this library dispenser ⋆༄.°⋆ ༘

thanks to everyone who has taken one

── ⋆⋅𖤓⋅⋆ ──
clean air + ppe is critical, especially as climate change/ environmental collapse exacerbate fires, pollution, and disease spread. masks save lives and are truly an underutilized tool

── ⋆⋅𖤓⋅⋆ ──
✿ P.S. this post comes at a time where masking is getting national mainstream attention (𝘪.𝘦. 𝘞𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯 𝘔𝘢𝘴𝘴. 𝘉𝘢𝘳 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘺). If you’re someone who pathologizes, mocks, or rolls their eyes at disabled folks/ people who mask to protect their health and their community…. What narrative are you perpetuating ? Who does this narrative benefit? Who does it harm?

SWANA Stitch annual community show as part of @portlandtextilemonth

Join us to experience the works of local and national SWANA Stitchers and celebrate community spaces, stitching circles and making art in our everyday lives!

There will be snacks, drinks, and merriment!

Material Memory is what we carry in our hands and on our bodies. This show centers the physicality of handwork and how it can help connect us to the collective memory of where we come from and help shape the future we are stitching together.

Our show is co-created by a community of stitchers, “curated” by community organizers and hosted at a community third space @swanarosepdx
