Islam is one of the most expansive and diverse religions in the world, spanning cultures, languages and histories across continents. Last night was a reflection of that. A reminder that Islam and its people are multi dimensional. Not one story, not one narrative, but many, all held together.

Spaces like this matter. Spaces that hold both our joy and our pain, our celebration and our reality, at the same time.

And especially for creators and businesses, that responsibility is real. We cannot just show the beauty and ignore the pain, or only centre the pain and forget the joy. When we separate the two, it becomes surface level. It becomes appropriation. Truth lives in holding both. We can not box eachother into stereotypes & spaces! But hold room for the multi-pronged identities of the multi-generational & varied diasporic individuals that encapsulate Islam.

Being Muslim is not something you dip in and out of, it is lived, felt and carried. Layered, complex and deeply human and PERSONAL

The speeches almost moved me to tears. Grounding, emotional and real.

March might have just become my favourite month. On top of Ramadan, Eid, IWD & Now Ruz it’s now also Muslim Heritage Month (WINNING)
