Nobody talks about the emotional rollercoaster of building an aquascape. One minute you’re an artistic genius, the next you’re questioning whether you’ve ever seen nature before😂🌱 Apart from the usual start up diatoms making their expected appearance, and trimming stem plants endlessly, this scape gave me little trouble. No major set backs or algae induced existential crises. Just a genuinely enjoyable build watching a vision come to life. One rock, piece of wood and plant at a time🙌🏻 ✨ And in a hobby that has a habit of humbling you when you least expect it, I’ll happily take the win😁

Yes. I spend hundreds on rare shrimp, carefully manage their water parameters and selectively breed them just to chuck them on a braai 🦐 Lightly seasoned with ADA Amazonia ✨

🌿 ONE SCAPE. TWO WORLDS. Our latest build is taking shape at Aqua Atlantis: a @wiosouthafrica @wio.eco WIO 120 Shallow Paludarium, designed to bring together life both above and below the waterline. This has been an incredibly exciting hardscape to create, combining a selection of WIO natural materials with the complete ADA substrate foundation: ADA Bacter 100 ADA Tourmaline BC ADA Clear Super ADA Power Sand ADA Amazonia The shallow format gives us the freedom to push the hardscape beyond the waterline, creating a landscape that will transition from a fully planted underwater environment into lush emergent growth above. The hardscape is taking shape. Next comes the part we’ve been waiting for… planting. 🌱 We cannot wait to bring this one to life. A NEW NATURE AQUARIUM IS TAKING SHAPE. 🌿🪨🪵 Over the past week, our aquascaping team at Aqua Atlantis has been developing this large-scale nature-style composition, with careful attention to perspective, scale, negative space, visual flow and depth throughout the hardscape. There’s still detailed refinement to come before the hardscape is complete, followed by a carefully considered planting plan designed to enhance the structure and perspective of the composition. Specialist aquascaping is all about the details 🪨 🪵 and this one is only just beginning.
