A fun family day out with the Epping Forest (@eppingforestht) & The Hive (@hiveintheforest) crew! 🌱

We got our hands (both the little & big ones) dirty with some fun nature activities, from pond-dipping, to die dye using flowers & leaves and we even got to pet a guinea pig.

Such a wholesome day, thank you to everyone who came along!

A beautiful misty morning walk at our local lake at the beginning of month. I looked out the window, saw the mist and the sunshine and was washed, dressed and out the door in about 10 minutes. Well worth the rush I think. The mist had completely cleared by the time I finished my walk.

How do I know it was juvenile? Well, aside from the plumage, it was chasing moths and looking for worms, which they love to do when they’re learning to hunt.

Day 14 of walking 100 miles for @tinytickers and we walked along the sweetest sculpture trail.

Huge thanks to @lorna.fd for the recommendation!

We loved finding the figures and ticking each one off the map. I paid £3 for the map and pencil, but the trail itself is free!!

I’ve walked 55.7 miles out of 100 all to give babies with congenital heart disease the best start in life. Check out my pinned posts for our story 🫶🏻

ART HELPS ME: Wanstead Flats + Old Manor Park Library
POSTPONED: WILL SHARE NEW DATE VERY SOON

Ishmael from @eppingforestht will lead a walk around Wanstead Flats where we'll learn more about the area, gathering ideas for a crafty session led by me back in the studios at Old Manor Park Library.

It's an opportunity to connect to nature, to other humans and to yourself in this autumnal time.

@camino_ultra - Epping Forest 💛

WE CELEBRATE, OUR LOVE 💛☮️🏃🏼‍♂️

I got to run, 50KM.

I got to catch up with folk, I’ve missed dearly.

I got to witness a young boy celebrate his father, early on in the route.

I got to share some rapid miles with @nowhere_somewhere_run … FINALLY.

I got to share a sweaty embrace with @daz_camino_ultra after heading out too quickly (sorry mate 😅)

I got to celebrate the 25KM runners as they went by me, in a segment of the run I loved so much.

I got to witness @_benflower absolutely flying !

I got to spend a short moment with the 25KM aid station, Camino Angels. Thank you @polcatb & @eleanorcoker as ALWAYS 💛

I got to see fellow Camino legends @maxultrafit @azzaruns @thepastarunner @whatderricksees all smashing it. Connections I am blessed to have, through this community.

I got to navigate when this run got tough, really taking in and seeing the forest. Gratitude in movement, ALWAYS.

I got to be saved by the @stoltrunning team, with a coffee that was a GOD SEND!

I got to share the gratitude mile with a fellow runner, in a beautiful mile. Two blokes, tiring, but helping each other through conversation, joy and love.

I got to cross the finish line, and be met with an embrace by legend @onehandedrunner 💛

I got to get, what we all came for;

A honest, true, embrace by inspiration @david_camino_ultra_bone

I got to receive an environmentally friendly medal crafted beautifully by @ecotribolife

I got to spend time with my people, the ones I love, in the city I love before I headed home.

I do not take any races for granted…. Especially not with this lot.

If you’re considering entering a race, look no further.
This lot understand what this modern world needs.

Every runner, celebrated.
Every runner, loved.
Every runner, inspired.

Every runner, apart of the TRUEST MEANING of the word;

Community.

I’m back baby!!! 🎉🎉🎉

Week 1 run 1 of my first ever half marathon training block ✅

I decided after going walking in the forest over the weekend I would go back for a run there today and I loved it! So much nicer than pounding the pavement! I’m hooked and going back tomorrow for my 18km long run🏃🏻‍♀️

Looks like I’ll be making a trip to the running shop for some trail runners so I can stay safe while navigating the tree roots and dusty paths that will inevitably become a mud bath. Any excuse for a shopping spree 🛍️🛍️

Also going to try to make more ‘content’ and not just pics of my Runna page 🤣 so you’ll be seeing my ugly mug more often. Soz hunz 💁🏻‍♀️

🍁 How are you welcoming autumn this year?🍂

After a fierce, feral summer, this is your sign to embrace your creativity and calm this new season.

At Wild Life Drawing we are putting the FUN in fungi with a guided sketching tour of Epping forest. We’ll be drawing the ancient trees, finding weird and wonderful mushrooms, and learning about the unique ecosystem with the Epping Forest Heritage Trust.

So treat yourself on World Mental Health Day, and come for a draw, an explore and some mindful forest bathing with us. Just a couple of places left for Saturday 10th October, tickets via the website.

🍄‍🟫 Oh and we won’t be foraging- we’ll leave the woodland as we found it, as my daughter says at forest school - no picking, no licking!

In this shirt 📸

Whilst the idea of the shirt, was to bring people a little moment of laughter and a smile around the course on Saturday, there was a deep meaning behind it.

I noted every smile as I greeted people in my Yorkshire “ey up” fashion and every comment about the shirt. I hope amongst the runners pushing themselves, it brought them a segment of joy which uplifted them, if they needed it.

Just as the forest, did for me.

It felt right, in the race which saw me travel further than I ever have within a calendar year, to bring joy and colour to the forest. A backdrop in similar types of surroundings in 2023, I went upon when I was at my lowest.

It was my lowest, but I now understand I find beauty within those segments more than any other. Because what you face within those times, change your world view. Completely.

The days I spent in isolation, running amongst forests, then finding a hidden spot in the vast space to sleep amongst nature, to wake and run again.

Multiple days.
Countless of unrecorded miles.
No audience.
No purpose beyond simply, getting through the day.

It was dark, but it was what I had to do.

To feel something.
To distract my messy mind.

It was a very lonely time, but in hindsight, it wasn’t.

I was running, moving and sleeping amongst the forest eco system, all which thrive off each other. The trees which had stood long before me, and will stand long after I am gone.

The wildlife I became obsessed to find, the bugs, the deer and vast array of birds. I started to change my world view to appreciate the things which we do, take for granted. The simple pleasures that are out there, should you seek them.

It brought colour into a world view which I had only seen in black and white, for song long.

So whilst an awful time, the shirt was to celebrate what the forest gave me when I thought, I had nothing.

It gave me life… in colour.

It’s just a shirt, but it was more than that.

It was a reminder that your darkest times, long term, can truly bring colour to your life.

My tribute to Jill Barkley @bramblyhedgeofficial after visiting her exhibition @coleppingforest visitor centre today. Wonderful to see her preparatory sketches and layouts and compositions for the amazing brambly hedge children’s books. Set off home walking through the forest and saw it through new eyes. She has absolutely nailed the colour palette and light so whilst all is fresh in my head sat down to do a drawing . @twice_mice_ @coleppingforest #drawing #watercolour
