POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We threw the second annual party called @here___nor___there up at a little spot where a bunch of us live. It’s a right where the Hudson Valley starts, a spot that languishes between the city and what you might call upstate. All of us who live here want more stuff like this, not even *this* but artist-, music-, and creative-led spaces and events to make our surrounding community expressive and inclusive and personality-driven. To see the many people—friends, family, DJs, bakers, engineers—who helped build something implacably weird with just a mixer, turntables, a controller, a projector, a generator, a canoe, and a very special place at the river…I mean… damn. A live opening and closing set, hundreds of bombs I had no time to Shazam—or take many photos—but this kind of thing should feel temporary anyway. It was, though, truly, unforgettable. Thank you to HNT co-founder @nikbucci and the Bucci gang for making this thing logistically and actually possible, and for @glutenweaver who helped midwife this into reality. More? Again? Yeah why not. Thanks.

R/P @eprosounds These are 10 deep cuts from 1989 that every hip hop head should know. 89 is my birth year and also one of my favorite years in hip hop, with one of the reasons being that I’m a sucker for James Brown samples and Ultimate Breaks and Beats loops. This time I decided to showcase a wider variety of music that was coming out in the US at the time, with Uptown, Major League, D-Ice, and The Rapzologist Dee Nice for the East Coast, some Midwest flavor coming from Soul Purpose, Double Def and KOB Just Chill as well as some west coast heavy hitters in Dazzie Dee (who went on to be a founding member of Da Lench Mob), I.M.P. and Madrok. What do you guys think of this list? Let me know in the comments #hiphop #djing #undergroundhiphop #rarehiphop #80shiphop

These are 10 deep cuts from the year 1997 that every hip hop head should know. A lot of variety here, with some of my favorite tracks from NY, NJ, Atlanta and some dope G funk from San Diego and Orlando. Also, Salaam Remi produced Major Stress, a slept on gem from NYC. What do you guys think about this list? Let me know in the comments.
