Ever notice how fast your brain fills in the blanks about someone else’s behavior? @eric_m_bailey shows leaders how to interrupt that pattern with curiosity. When people feel safe enough to explain their perspective, real dialogue becomes possible. 🧠✨

Let's talk about bringing him to your next event!

Your brain loves shortcuts. Heuristics help you move fast, but they also mix things up, especially when fear or failure enters the picture. @eric_m_bailey is the best at breaking down how your brain can turn a few letters into a whole story… and why awareness is the first step to better decisions.

We’re more connected than ever. So why are so many people lonely at work?

At Workhuman Live, Eric M. Bailey (eric_m_bailey) unpacked the growing disconnect in today’s workplaces: surface-level interactions, rising anxiety, and more people turning to AI before turning to each other.

His solution starts with curiosity. When people feel heard, understood, and genuinely seen, work starts to feel more human.

Day 3 of the 2026 Maine HR Convention focused on what’s next for HR and how leaders can drive meaningful impact in the workplace and beyond.

From smarter meetings and stronger communication to AI in recruiting, succession planning, and workforce development, today’s sessions challenged attendees to think strategically about the future of work.

Eric M. Bailey’s keynote, The Cure for Stupidity, brought humor and brain science together to help us better understand human behavior, communication, and conflict in the workplace. We also explored how HR can strengthen culture, influence leadership, and build psychologically safe environments where people can thrive.

The day wrapped with a live podcast conversation featuring Matt Poepsel, PhD and Maine Commissioner of Labor Laura Fortman, connecting workforce trends and public policy directly to the realities HR leaders are navigating every day.

And to close it all out? A little friendly competition and plenty of laughs at Trivia Night.

What a week it’s been.

AZ Region Champions 🖤 EVJ 13 Black

I don’t even know where to start because I could go on for hours about how amazing this team is, along with the parents and my head coach. All I know is these girls have worked so hard and truly proved that they deserved this season win more than anything.

I always say I love coaching and that I’ve finally found what I want to do in life, but honestly, I think I just LOVE coaching these girls. After playing volleyball for years and falling in and out of love with the game, I’ve finally fallen in love again, not because of my own playing, but because I’ve watched them fall in love with it season after season.

I’m beyond grateful for this opportunity to coach alongside none other than Deb Edwards.

Feeling grateful for the opportunity to speak at WorkHuman today about How To Have Difficult Conversations And Actually Enjoy It!

Michelle Obama is speaking today. Angela Ducworth and Amy Edmondson spoke earlier. Looking forward to Shawn Achor’s talk on happiness. I’m a huge fan.

Also, many of my friends will be speaking at WorkHuman, including Eric M. Bailey who will be talking about the brain science of human connection in an artificial world, Peter Danzig, and Hamza Khan.

Other absolutely fantastic speakers sharing this week are John Baldino, Latasha Gillespie, Julie Develin, Prudence Pitter, Lieutenant General Leslie C. Smith, George Rogers, Navin Jain, and of course the indelible Darcy Jacobsen who hosted the WorkHuman Webinar where Eric M. Bailey and I explored human leadership in an AI World.

And one of the best part is I get to be at this event with my friend, Lauren Yee!

Super excited for today!

As I sit here with my cat on my lap and a cup of tea… I had a thought I didn’t love:

maybe I’m the problem? 💀😂

I’ve been reading The Cure for Stupidity by Eric M. Bailey and this line stuck with me:
“The cure for stupidity isn’t fixing others, it’s fixing how we see them.”

Because it’s so easy to think, “you’re not getting it… it’s not clocking to you.” (Shout out JB)

But I’m pretty sure someone has thought the same thing about me.

Most annoyance isn’t about intelligence.
It’s about perception.

And once you realize that, you start showing up differently, at work, in conversations, in everything. 👏

Just got off the @workhuman Webinar. It was a fantastic conversation with Eric Bailey and Darcy Jacobsen. Definitely check it out when you get the chance.

One point I forgot to share at the end was this. If we are talking about human-centered leadership, we have to recognize that HR is the only department with human in the title. Human Resources is the only department whose job is to look out for human beings, when done well. We are the last stand in keeping humanity in the workplace. Marketing, sales, finance, research, and every other department doesn’t have time to do this as they are focused on all their other work.

It’s on us to ensure that we create workplaces where humans can thrive. Not just AI.

Tomorrow is going to be a lot of fun. Eric Bailey, Darcy Jacobsen, and I will be nerding out on Human-Centered Leadership at the WorkHuman Webinar on Thursday, February 26th at 12 PM EST.

We will be exploring how to bring humanity back to the workplace during this surreal time in history. The best part is that the event is FREE.
