There may be no acronym more studied—or scrutinized—in menswear than “OCBD.” Shorthand for “oxford cloth button-down,” it refers to the casual sports shirt that was first introduced by Brooks Brothers at the turn of the last century and has spawned countless imitations since.

The Bijou. A strong, stirred affair comparable to a Manhattan or Martinez, it pairs a healthy pull of Green Chartreuse to the same amount of sweet vermouth and a base of London dry gin, accented by a few dashes of orange bitters. The result is sweet and strong enough to pull digestif duty, yet bracing and botanical in the way that a great martini can be before dinner. Happy Hour, excerpted from the Summer 2025 issue of Wm Brown.

~ Bijou ~
1½ oz gin (preferably No. 3 London Dry)
¾ oz Green Chartreuse
¾ oz sweet vermouth
(preferably Mancino Rosso)
2 dashes orange bitters (preferably Bitter Truth)
Add ingredients to a stirring glass filled with ice
and stir until properly chilled and diluted.
Strain into a martini or Nick and Nora glass.
No garnish.
