You’ve seen all kinds of cons, but you’ve never seen anything like… RKO CON V (Btw, Rhode Island is not even an island). Thank you to @rkoarmy and @doublefeaturenyc everyone who make #rkoconv so amazing! ❤️🖤

i love The Rocky Horror Picture Show. there is probably no piece of media that has influenced me to a greater extent than this goofy movie from the 70s about frankenstein in fishnets. it had a large hand during my development as a little one in informing my aesthetic, my view of the world, my understanding of myself as a queer person of color. i simply just don’t know who i’d be had my mother not taken little me to see the movie “with the trailer with the creepy mouth” for my birthday so many years ago. and lord am i fucking glad.

although the dream was i’d join a Rocky cast the second i “grew up”, lots and lots of life got in the way. until this year, when by some freak chance, i found it again in a new way. i cannot overstate how affirming being a part of @doublefeaturenyc has been. having longed for queer community for the longest time, i feel so grateful that i’ve found it through the shadowcastimg medium that has brought me and so many others so much joy for so long.

AND i CANNOT overstate how much of a full-circle moment it was to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Rocky Horror with my cast as well as unconventional conventionists from all over the country and internationally at @rkoarmy’s RKO CON V. getting to connect and reconnect with so many other weirdos and freaks was just the sweetest and loveliest experience. thank you to all the organizers, performers, staff and attendees for making my first con experience so magical. what a beautiful thing it is to bond with a stranger over being out here doing the same thing!! also not for nothing it was also just really fucking fun. quickest 96 hours of my life.

i love The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and i’m so glad i remembered ❤️🫦 i cannot possibly fit all the joy from the past weekend into a 20 slide instagram post, but here are some highlights.

photo descriptions below. til next year … (dot dot dot)
