Last night at @wolf_trap, we gave the world premiere of my “Liberty Symphony (Symphony No. 5)” to a packed house.

My deepest thanks to the great musicians of the National Symphony Orchestra, to the extraordinary James Gaffigan for conducting this new work, and to baritone Eric Greene, who sings in the fifth movement. It was an honor and a pleasure to make music with all of them.

There are many people behind a first performance like this. Thank you to everyone at Wolf Trap and to my team at Jazz at Lincoln Center who worked so hard to make this premiere possible. Our music copyist Jonathan Kelly has been indispensable throughout this process. Thank you also to Kay, Christi, Greg, and the entire JALC staff for all their work.

And thank you to the members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. It is an honor, a pleasure, and a blessing to play my music with these friends and great musicians.
Thank you, Wolf Trap, for a great night and a great beginning for “Liberty Symphony”.

Yesterday at the The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., we had our first rehearsal of my new “Liberty Symphony” with the @jazzdotorg Orchestra and the @natsymphonydc together under the direction of @james.gaffigan .

Baritone @ericgreene52 also joined us for the first time, singing in the fifth movement of the symphony.

After beginning the work with the JLCO in New York, it was good to hear the full orchestra come together and begin shaping the piece as a whole.

Tonight, we bring Liberty Symphony (Symphony No. 5) to the stage for its world premiere at @wolf_trap in Vienna, Virginia.

I've been in this business for a mins and I have reached a point where WHO i choose to work with is just as important as the work I choose to do.
Being a good colleague has always been the advice given to singer but caveat that usually comes along with that is "you never know where people will end up. Someone maybe in a position to hire you someday." That leads to fake impressions and an inauthentic way of being.
I will sign on for a show I have absolutely no interest in doing, if I know GOOD PEOPLE are involved, over a dream role with folks who could care less about what we are doing.

Headed home after and absolutely amazing experience at the Smetanov litomyšl. Absolutely humbled to have been able to share Porgy and Bess with singers who have shared this score around the world, elizabeth_llewellyn_soprano @ericgreene52 @newlycajun @tichinavaughn @aundimariemoore @jdavidjackson24. The energy was so vibrant through out the town.
A wonderful reminder of the power of music to connect and reach beyond differences.

One of the greatest gifts of being an international opera singer is getting to serve as an ambassador of sorts, introducing other cultures to our great American operatic legacy, in this case, Porgy and Bess. It is believed that our performances this weekend will be the first for this region of the Czech Republic! We had the first orchestra rehearsal this morning and it is so awesome to see the Czech orchestra members getting into the Gershwin groove! Grateful and blessed! #tichinavaughn #gershwin #smetanafestival #porgyandbess #americanopera

Another Porgy adventure! As if gathering for a Porgy and Bess in the land of Smetana was not already a joyous occasion, to have a group like this one assembled by Maestro David Jackson is something close to ecstasy! Ridiculous talent, amazing people. If the first rehearsal is any indication, the folks in the audience are gonna need seatbelts! So blessed!! #tichinavaughn #smetanalitomysl #porgyandbess #blackexcellence #operalife

Mohican/Munsee-Lenape composer Brent Michael Davids’s Requiem for America: Singing for the Invisible People received its world premiere at the Barbican tonight, as part of the BBC Symphony Orchestra’s Making America season.

Teddy Abrams (@teddyconducts) conducted the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, an ensemble of Native American singers led by Nitaa-Nagamokwe, and Davids himself on Native American flute.

Soloists were Wallis Giunta (@wallis.giunta contralto / narrator), Janai Brugger (@nainai0383 soprano), Anne Marie Stanley (@annemarie.stanley alto), Robert Murray (@robmuz tenor) and Eric Greene (@ericgreene52 baritone).

Across four concerts this spring, the BBC Symphony Orchestra has explored the myths, memories, dreams and contradictions that have shaped the American experience – from the Hollywood fantasy, the darker undercurrents of the American dream, to Indigenous perspectives and the voices of European émigrés who reimagined their art in the New World.
