I’m grateful to be trusted by educators, community organizations, and community leaders across San Francisco who believe in strong public schools—and in the future we are building together:

A reality where no child’s future depends on luck.

Today is an important campaign fundraising deadline. If you believe in this work, please join us.

I was a mute student. I never imagined I would one day run for public office.

Last night, surrounded by educators, teachers, parents, community leaders, old friends, former colleagues, and people I’ve built coalitions with over the years, I had one of those moments where I thought: How did I get here?

Growing up, I never imagined my story was one worth sharing.

But I am the product of interventions—teachers who saw me, people who supported my family, and opportunities that helped me become the first in my family to graduate from college.

Being surrounded by practitioners last night reminded me why this work matters. We share a language around education, intervention, and prevention. We know what can happen when we reach a child early, support a family, and build systems that give people a real opportunity to thrive.

When I ran in 2024, I wasn’t sure who would hear my message. Since then, people have told me they see themselves, their children, and their families in my story.

That is the fuel that keeps me going.

Every child deserves to be safe, seen, valued and heard. Every child deserves a voice.

And I’m proud to run alongside Reina Tello and Ryan Hazelton—two leaders with deep roots in building systems alongside communities too often left out.

Vote Reina Tello. Vote Ryan Hazelton. Vote Virginia. 🗳️

Donate to each of our campaigns. Volunteer. Come pound the pavement with us.

San Francisco is made up of many communities, languages, experiences, and stories. Our School Board should reflect them.

Let’s build it together. ❤️

Conference & Art Exhibition | Glendale Memorial Day for “Comfort Women”

From July 25–26, ESJF was honored to co-organize and participate in the 15th Anniversary Glendale Memorial Day for “Comfort Women” Conference, Memory, Resistance, and Transnational Solidarity: From 2012 to the Present and Beyond.

For the first time, the annual conference was presented alongside the art exhibition Recording the Codex: Cultural Heritage Through Language, creating a powerful dialogue between scholarship, activism, and contemporary art.

Thank you to our inspiring speakers, moderators, organizers, artists, volunteers, and attendees for making this gathering so meaningful. A special thank you to Professor Christine Hong, who graciously stepped in on very short notice to deliver a powerful presentation and co-moderate the conference, helping make the program both engaging and impactful.

We are also grateful to Noel Park, ESJF Youth Intern, for interviewing Michael Hausfeld and editing the recording, preserving important reflections on survivors’ decades-long pursuit of justice.

One of the most unforgettable moments came not from the stage, but from the audience: a young child quietly crocheting while listening throughout the two-day conference, and another, dressed in a onesie, eagerly speaking into the microphone—a gentle reminder that memory, justice, and hope are carried from one generation to the next.

At ReflectSpace, Recording the Codex: Cultural Heritage Through Language, curated by Ara Oshagan, Anahid Oshagan, and Monica Hye-yeon Jun, explored how language preserves cultural memory while exposing histories of injustice through photography, installation, text, and mixed media.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in honoring survivors, advancing historical memory, and strengthening transnational solidarity.

This weekend, the community turned out for No Kings Day, joining the @bayresistance Resistance Westside Resistance rally at Sunset Dunes.

Community events like these show why we need spaces like Sunset Dunes to come together for both joy and to take a stand. We’re proud to have helped with permitting to make this rally possible. #oceanbeach #outersunset #sanfrancisco

At the San Francisco ICE Field Office a public vigil of prayer, song, and testimony took place yesterday to remember the incarceration of Japanese Americans 80+ years ago and stand in solidarity with immigrants and asylum seekers facing violence and persecution today. We lift our prayers for protection, justice, and community for all.

@tsuruforsolidarity writes:
"As survivors and descendants of Japanese American wartime incarceration, we carry the lasting legacy of state violence. We understand all too well the consequences of a government that lies and creates false narratives to justify murdering detained people and those advocating for their freedom."
