Dead air is one of the biggest no-nos in radio. But today, on the 25th anniversary of 9/11, Bob Cole let the silence speak.

Twenty-five years later, this day is still heavy in so many ways—and sometimes there just aren’t words.

Never forget. 🇺🇸

Rita Ballou is a Texas Country Music legend. Joining us on the podcast, this episode went completely bonkers.
She’s the Queen of Snark, Texas country’s favorite professional instigator, radio personality, accidental celebrity and living proof that a sharp tongue can, in fact, become a career. We asked the questions polite interviewers are too scared to ask.
Just sarcasm, chaos and enough honesty to make several people nervous. Listen before somebody’s publicist has it removed.

Wrote most of this song a few years back in a Cabo hotel after my bros Mike & the @flowershopguy dared/prompted me to write a drinkin song while we were out catching yellowfins on their boat 🛥️ Got stuck on the 3rd verse figuring I’d just finish it some other time. Next morning I played it back on my phone and thought, “kinda campy dumb, but that chorus ain’t too bad’.

Started playing it at Brodie shows where it became a live fave because I’d make up comical dumb spontaneous lines for that unfinished 3rd verse for years until I sent it to my good radio friend Tami Millspaugh to see if it might match the reaction it got live on radio. Her reaction: ‘Cool catchy drinking song but that 3rd verse is just awful stupid, won’t go over on radio, sounds like you made up the words on the spot in the vocal booth..’ She caught me 😅 So I shelved it under AJ ARCHIVES where unreleased songs go to die 💀

Fast forward early this year, with the song being a live fave I knew it had legs, so figured I’d dust off the recording decent enough to pitch to my good bud, the undisputed king of drinkin’ songs @kevinfowler 👑🍻 So I forced myself back into the vocal booth to tackle that stubborn ass 3rd verse and out of frustration into the mic I slurred, ‘She like Vallejo, Ragweed n’ Cuervo..’ like I’d sang it for years. A bit vain ha but flowed pretty damn well. MY song now + could maybe pass the Tami test! 😅

Sent it back to TX/Regional radio in hopes it might make some noise, went on about my biz like I always do.

Following week rolled around, woke up, checked my messages 🥹 most stations added/spins its first week, squeezed into the Top 40 this week at #37 💥

Moral of the story: Yeah. 🍻
