Another fabulous week at Toronto Summer Music 2026 - can you believe there's only one week remaining? 🎼🎹🎻

- The week opened with a bang from Kleztory, featuring a surprise birthday wish for their violinist Elvira Misbakhova!
- Artistic Director William Fedkenheuer made his TSM recital debut, showcasing the two sides of the same fiddle.
- The Poiesis Quartet brought the house down alongside pianist Philip Chiu, in a programme of commissions & modern composers, alongside Brahms.
- Pianist Inon Barnatan brought fire to the Koerner Hall stage in a programme consisting of piano arrangements of orchestral hallmarks!
- Our Academy Mentors joined forces to perform Dohnanyi's Piano Quintet, and Mendelssohn & Prokofiev.
- The week concluded with performances by our talented Academy Fellows, alongside their mentors.

One week remains of TSM 2026; don't miss out on the fun!

Playing music is like farming imagination, joy, curiosity, and love. I’m so fortunate to get to create music with people who are beacons of all of these qualities. Tilling, planting, sprouting, watering, waiting, watching the sky, hoping for rain, flowering, fruiting, harvesting, nourishing, fermenting, preserving, rotting, tilling under, reseeding, letting the harvest go to seed.. Let’s eat! I’m playing three shows this weekend in Toronto. Friday is a Shag Carpet concert @ 7pm with Whistlin’ Pines. Myself, Aaron Davis, Mike Eckert, Eric Wright. Mandolin, Piano, Cello, Pedal Steel. With super special guest vocalist Lori Cullen. Saturday is with the Neon Eagle at the Rex from 5-7. Mike Eckert, Kevin Breit, Galen Pelley, Rich Brown, Johnny Johnson, and Aaron Davis. —Wow. My favourites. All together. As much of a Joy to play as it to hear… Sunday afternoon is a private show - Whistlin’ Pines with Lori Cullen and Johnny Johnson. Come on out and share in the Joy.

Andddd that’s a wrap on our album recording! Still lots of work ahead of us, but what a dream team we had with @ericwrightsound, Antonio, and @lizknowlesmusic for our last day of recording! Thank you to @wgbh and @crbclassical for this amazing collaboration opportunity. Besides, having @jonbatiste coincidentally in the same room and hearing his interview during our lunch break was just the cherry on top!

Congratulations to @thefretless for winning Instrumental Album of the Year for their beautiful album, Glasswing, at this past weekend’s @canadianfolkmusicawards . Additional congratulations to one of their fine band mates, Ben Plotnick / @benplotnickmusic for also winning Producer of the Year for his outstanding work with @loudinthepines on their lovely album, Every Colour Left!

I had the pleasure of seeing and photographing The Fretless when they played at @meafordhall last fall! It was a really wonderful evening and I was happy to have that opportunity, and to pick up a signed copy of Glasswing in the process! I’ve discovered more amazing, mostly Canadian, artists in the last year and couldn’t be happier about that. I encourage you to go down the rabbit hole and explore the other intriguing projects these excellent composers and songwriters have to offer!
