Glasswing coming September 13th. We are so proud of this record and everyone involved. We focused on playing together, trusting our arrangements, and moving with the collective sound and energy that we create when we listen deeply and lean into each other. by @thefretless

𓆟 ARTIST SPOTLIGHT 𓆟

The Fretless has been creating a singular and signature sound that dares to expand the idea of what a string music quartet can be—transforming fiddle tunes and folk melodies into intricate and beautiful arrangements that have gained a dedicated following and accolades from around the world. Within what appears to be a simple and traditional construct — two fiddles, a viola, and a cello — The Fretless has created a sound that is distinctly rich, multi-layered, and uniquely percussive. This tonal quality is pushing traditional music to new heights, producing a completely fresh approach to Folk music.

See @thefretless live at DCMF, July 17-19, 2026! Click the link in our bio to get your tickets now!

We are so deeply grateful. Three nominations at this year’s Canadian Folk Music Awards! Being recognized alongside so many extraordinary artists this weekend in Calgary is something we don’t take for granted.

To every nominee and every winner this weekend - congratulations from all of us.

A huge thank you to Madeleine Roger for everything you brought to Glasswing. Making this record with you was a dream. Thank you Joby Baker for your incredible musical mind and spirit, and to Birthday Cake Records for being a dream label to be a part of.

Lastly, thank you to the @canadianfolkmusicawards for building something so meaningful for Canadian music.

Also - we ❤️ Calgary.

My first trip to @wintergrassmusicfestival was like a dream. Highlights include Mike’s band Biriba Union performing, watching Eilidh do cartwheels with her friend Sylvie while Casey takes a killer solo, getting a massage while listening to the Fretless, margs 🍹 with the Fretless, basking in the glow of Vasen, Darol, Bruce, Brittany, Casey, Kimber, Tristan, playing music with Yann and Tristan, getting to see west coast PDB friends again right away, Eilidh learning 2 (!) more parts to Boil them Cabbage in Jamz1, mini Sierra camp reunion with Melissa’s kids, and listening to all the amazing rehearsals in Maria’s room. Thank you to Maria and Patrice for the beautiful community you and the Wintergrass scene have created. by @thefretless
