Welcome... to BRAIN DANCE! 🧠💃🎶 We're SO excited to share the full performance of BRAIN DANCE, our ongoing art-science collaboration exploring the mysterious space between performer and witness! Erika June has been developing a new instrument called Somalon, which transforms live brain activity into evolving soundscapes. Kaylin brings those sounds into the world of contemporary dance, exploring what happens when the brain activity of performer and witness becomes part of the artistic experience. We started with an intimate proof-of-concept performance in September, and that experience helped us develop this more theatrical version, presented at Slippery Rock University on October 16. And WOW, we're beyond thrilled with how it turned out! Here's the full ten-minute performance, complete with live brainwave soundscapes, movement, and the energy of the room. This is just the beginning of what we hope to explore together. More to come! Learn more about Brain Dance and Somalon: erikajunechristinalaing.com/brain-dance Somalon (EEG Sonification) & Sound Design: Erika June Christina Laing Choreography & Performance: Kaylin Horgan Witness: Julianna Record Videography: Ben Viatori Video Editing & Audio Mix: Erika June Christina Laing Additional Sound: excerpt from Jan Jelinek, Davos S (Trio ’Round Midnight) Developed with support from the Frank-Ratchye Further Fund (FRFF) at the STUDIO for Creative Inquiry, Carnegie Mellon University. Music Mania was so wonderful!!! Father-daughter duo extraordinaire Eric and Juliette put together an amazing event with great bands, delicious foods, and cold beverages for everyone who came. The crowd was legit!! We even had our own cheerleading squad of two little girls who danced up front with pom poms the WHOLE set 🥰 A perfect day indeed!! Kudos to Eric and Juliette!! (And the building manager who let us throw this big public party AND mixed drinks all day!) #diyvenue ftw 🙌

Pittsburgh music pals on unrelated trips to the Midwest? Gotta see live jazz! This building and its history are incredible, the trio was killer, and the “mother hen” type running the place was like the Mary Jo Coll of Chicago. We felt right at home.
