Spotlight Sunday is arriving on a Wednesday this week. In our defense, we are artists. Deadlines were never our strong suit. This week’s spotlight is Evan Mulvaney.
Evan is a mandolin player based in Napa, originally from Woodstock, New York. At the start of this interview, Evan stated that he believes every child should play an instrument, not in a “become a prodigy” way, but in a way where they can understand sound, keep a flexible mind, and hold onto a playful spirit. He’s been making music since 3rd grade and fell in love with it as a teenager. After seven years of viola, the mandolin felt like a natural crossover. He’s been playing it for five years now and hasn’t looked back.
His set moves through a lot of world and folk music: old European tunes, Irish jigs, Sicilian folk, classical pieces, Polish polkas, Beatles covers, and even the Lord of the Rings soundtrack. One of his favorites is Metsäkukkia, a Finnish folk waltz that means “woodland flowers.”
Evan believes music is the universal language of all organisms. He talks about the soul singing through the instrument and the heart singing through whatever piece it’s being asked to play. He also talks about how the sound coming through an instrument moves through a room. It has a physical effect on the people around and helps us stay in touch with our emotions.
He moved back to California about 10 months ago and is looking forward to being part of the music and art scene here again. For him, music isn’t extra. It’s part of a person’s essence.
Come hear him this Monday

We’ve been having an absolute blast at our new venue for Open Mic Napa. There’s nothing better than gathering the community every week to share entertainment, connect, and just vibe together. So many new faces and visitors showing up, it’s been amazing to watch. Huge thank you to Rebel for hosting us, and to every single person who comes through and makes these nights special. What a wholesome little community we’ve built here in Napa. Much love. See you Monday. 🎤✨

Last Monday, we held our very first official open mic at the new venue: Rebel Vintners. It was a beautiful evening filled with good music, poetry, heartfelt conversations, and wine.
Art has a way of moving us. Allowing us to feel deeply, see different perspectives, catch a glimpse of someone’s heart, and understand them a little more. I think that’s what’s so beautiful about sharing your art. During the event, I felt incredibly moved by my friends and the community that shows up for one another. In that moment, a poem I wrote a couple of years ago popped into my head, and it felt perfectly fitting. I Want To Remember by Erin
I want to remember this feeling
I want to capture it
I want to hold it near forever
I never want this feeling Or the remembrance of this feeling
To slip away
For my life is a symphony And it is playing a sweet song One that I’m not sure I’ve heard before
With every note played, every string strung, and every verse sung
One can hear love, friendship, beauty, hope and excitement
The blues have ended
The bass has been put away And I have been made anew ✨ #napaevents #napamusic #napalife #napaartist #napavalley
