Hello! Do you know Audio Placebo Plaza?⁣
⁣
Audio Placebo Plaza is a community-driven radio and sound art collective conceived by multidisciplinary Canadian artists Julia E Dyck, Erin Gee, and Vivian Li.⁣
⁣
We have a website for you: link in bio! But really check us out on soundcloud for maximum satisfaction.⁣
⁣
We have an upcoming performance transmission on July 8 (technically July 9 because it's at 2am) as part of "InSomnolence" event here in Montreal. For one night only will be waiting for your call, ready to talk you through your insomnia. More details later.⁣
⁣
𝐹𝑜𝓊𝓃𝒹𝑒𝒹 𝓊𝓅𝑜𝓃 𝓅𝓇𝒾𝓃𝒸𝒾𝓅𝓁𝑒𝓈 𝑜𝒻 𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇𝓈𝑒𝒸𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃𝒶𝓁 𝒻𝑒𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒾𝓈𝓂, 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝑒 𝒶𝒸𝒸𝑒𝓈𝓈 𝓉𝑜 𝓈𝑒𝓁𝒻-𝒸𝒶𝓇𝑒, 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝒶𝓊𝒹𝒾𝑜 𝓅𝓇𝑜𝒹𝓊𝒸𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃 𝑒𝓍𝒸𝑒𝓁𝓁𝑒𝓃𝒸𝑒, Audio Placebo Plaza invites everyday people to take appointments with artists to discuss how an audio placebo could help improve their lives, resulting in custom Audio Placebos created by the artists. ⁣
⁣
These appointments are entirely focused on the individual and also in themselves performances, part of the process. Common topics of discussion included increasing productivity, self-esteem, mental health, social interactivity, brain hacking, mitigating insomnia, and pain management, but also one’s aural preferences, sensitivities, and curiosities. ⁣
⁣
Our collaborations are non-hierarchical, adaptive, and simultaneous: one might be working on up to four projects at a time, or trade tasks depending on one’s backlog of labor. ⁣
⁣
Through Audio Placebo Place, we explore and develop methods for sound and music that propose emotional labor, listening, collaboration and “music as repair” (see Suzanne Cusick, 2008) as key elements that shape the sonic-social encounter between artists and the public.⁣
⁣
Can placebos help?⁣
Does sound have the power to process complex emotions?⁣
Can music give you what you need?⁣
Is this even music?

"Drop the shoulders, gently go into the deep waters of the sensing-body. This is a part of halting distress."

I began my year-long artist residency at Institut Quantique at Universite Sherbrooke with @sporobole last week. With patience and respect, I am talking and listening.

After I leave Sherbrooke, I begin haunting the public spaces of the research centre with words that invoke the queer sensuousness of quantum physics, being text-mouth with literary luminary Andrew Wenaus 🗯 and inviting others to leave comments or edits as the work develops.

(On more glamorous topics, I am also experimenting with miniature photolithography, microelectronics, and lasers), but the chalk drawings are my insistent gesture towards simple technologies and shared thought. Thanks for stopping by and thanks for yr brilliance Andrew 🔮
