I attended events from @a16z ‘s tech week but definitely look beyond just the list provided

Loved the ladies who listen series from @listenlabsai 🤍 thank you for inviting me!

The best two meals under $100 pp in SF. 💕

⭐️ 1 Michelin Star

It’s a progressive Korean restaurant from Corey Lee’s team, led by chef Jeong-In Hwang.

They have a $118 tasting menu, but I always order à la carte and can usually keep it under $100 pp. I really like their barbecue, and à la carte lets me order more of the meat I want. 🥩

It’s always very busy, so I have two reservation tricks:

👉 Line up at least 30 minutes before they open for a walk-in.
👉 Make a reservation for four people. Four is actually much easier to get than two.

They don’t have a Michelin star but I think the food is Michelin quality.

They have a $99 tasting menu, but I also usually order à la carte.

My favorites are the beef tartare, Parker House rolls, and their cocktails. The ambiance is lovely.

💡 Reservations open 30 days in advance. Walk-ins are limited, so I’d make a reservation.

Both places are also on my list of best date night SF. 💕

Dinner at @ernest.sf and I’m still thinking about it. Did the chef’s tasting menu, and it was special, decadent, and a little celebratory too. Every course felt like a small event.

The standout: caviar and banana bread with miso butter. Sounds like it shouldn’t work. It absolutely does. Salty, sweet, funky, rich, all at once, in one bite.

This is why I love this city. There’s always a table that surprises you. This location in the Mission / Potrero neighborhood used to be a coffee bar where all the techies worked. Nice to be back in the beautiful space.

THE “BEST” BURGER?
I BARELY REMEMBER IT

I was told this was one of the best burgers on the West Coast.

I barely remember it.

I went to San Francisco with this vague idea that if I ate enough of a city’s food, somehow it would tell me what that city felt like. I had no idea how that was supposed to work. 😂

Somewhere between a sandwich shop full of strangers telling me I was about to have a GREAT sandwich, trusting somebody else to choose food I normally would’ve avoided, and sitting outside exhausted with one extremely hyped burger…I think I figured out what I was actually looking for.

My favorite San Francisco tasting menu @ernest.sf  
For $99 / $139 per person, the kitchen sends out a progression of dishes from across the menu, designed to share - starting with oysters and raw seafood, moving through bread, vegetables and rice, then finishing with a larger meat course and dessert.

Our tasting included:
🦪 Hog Island Oyster Michelada 🍣 Sushi Rice with ikura, raw beef & toasted nori 🐟 Swordfish with prosciutto, melon & pistachio 🍅 Bluefin Tuna Carpaccio with heirloom tomato & shio kombu 🍞 Parker House Rolls with house-cultured butter 🍚 Koshihikari Fried Rice with summer succotash & Thai basil 🍆 Confit Eggplant with green garbanzo hummus & raita 🧀 Burrata with figs, hazelnut & scallion pancake 🍅 Smoked Early Girl Tomato with shiso green goddess 🥩 BBQ Short Rib with French onion & hot mustard 🍰 Basque Cheesecake

You can also add supplements like the Osetra Caviar Banana Bread ($75)

Instead of a traditional tasting menu where everyone gets a series of tiny composed courses, Ernest lets the table experience a broad cross-section of the menu. This is the one tasting menu in SF I recommend for price and value.
