Every year art and design descend on Paris for almost two weeks of art installations, exhibitions and most importantly design. Museums across the city are filled with the juxtaposition of the ancient marvels that founded European design against the modern European designers shaping the continent’s future.

Why we love it: It is colorful, joyful and breaks through the noise of what we have come to know in European design. Whether it is the scale of the piece, the form or even the color, it offers us a look into Chinese design through a Chinese lens.

Why we love it: Refreshing textures, forms and innovative ideas that breathe new life into, let’s be honest, a rather repetitive world of design. Whether it’s through form or function, the designs presented were works of art.

Why we love it: It’s tangible proof that playfulness and culture go hand in hand with design. The use of traditional pieces like clothing, food and everyday objects in furniture bring art into their design and tell a story of culture through the exhibition.

Why we love it: As fans of artisan craft, we love to see traditional artisanal design on display in a design week context. It is joyful and happy and shows that design comes from everywhere and when we celebrate the originators of it we all win.

Why we love it: Guerrée’s use of color, pattern and texture throughout his work offers modern European design a splash of fun. His geometric terracotta tiles offer a modern update to a classic material.

Why we love it: The sculptural design speaks to a global audience while being stylistically African by Africans, rather than the often seen appropriation of African artistry in European design. The quality is evident at first g

Design Week Lagos made its way to Paris Design Week 🇫🇷

I’ve had the privilege of working with an incredible team to bring this together; coordinating different stakeholders, navigating logistics, solving problems as they came up (and there were quite a few 😅), and generally figuring things out on the go.

All while pretending I understand French beyond oui, merci and c’est bon. 😂

But beyond the logistics and the long days, one of the highlights for me has been seeing the reaction to what we’re building.

Running into Nigerian creatives here who came to support us in Paris was genuinely special. Seeing the light in their eyes as they discovered the work being done by other Nigerians across the creative industry was a reminder of why platforms like Design Week Lagos matter.

There is so much talent, ingenuity and creative energy coming out of Nigeria, and it’s incredibly powerful to see that work represented in spaces like Paris Design Week.

For me, this experience has been a lesson in collaboration, adaptability and the importance of creating opportunities for African creativity to be seen, connected and celebrated globally.

Very proud of what the team has put together, and very grateful to everyone who has helped make it happen. 🤍

Now, back to oui, merci… c’est bon. 🇫🇷😂

Meet the designers bringing African innovation to the global stage!

Introducing Nicole Adaora Enwonwu (@erubadesigns), a spatial and lighting designer focused on memory, ancestry, and emotional atmosphere. She combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design in sculptural lighting and forged metal, creating immersive pieces that link cultural heritage with modern living.

At Paris Design Week, she will be showcasing the Anyanwu Standing Lamp. Exploring light as an emotional force, this piece features a dual-toned amber surface. It balances softness, depth, and intensity, demonstrating how layered materials and colors can shift a space’s mood while retaining essential warmth.

Join Design Week Lagos at Paris Design Week Factory, 10 to 14 September, 116 Rue de Turenne, 75003 Paris.

Supported by @essentialinteriors @franceinnigeria and @lagosxparis

Meet Nicole Adaora Enwonwu (@adaoraae), a designer exploring light as emotion, memory, and presence.

At SaloneSatellite, Nicole presents a body of work that goes beyond illumination, using light as a way to express feeling, identity, and cultural memory.

Her sculptural lighting piece, Ànyánwụ́, meaning “sun” in Igbo, is inspired by the abstraction of a woman in motion not performing, but celebrating life in all its complexities, both its beauty and its tension. This idea allows light to move, shift, and respond like life itself.

Watch her story and discover how she is shaping a new language of design through light.
