We’re excited to announce that we’re opening a wine shop and bar in Sneinton Market, Nottingham: Subterranean Wines. It’s a collaboration between the people behind Essen General Store and Wright’s Wines, inspired by the caves à manger we love to visit in France. Subterranean Wines will specialise in the producers imported by Wright’s, and will pour wines on tap to drink in and take away, all bottled on site. We will have a large wall of wine where everything will be available to drink in too.

You’ll be able to get something to eat alongside your glass of wine: Essen will select cheese, charcuterie and quality tinned fish from their brilliant suppliers, as well as bread baked very locally of course.

We are currently looking for full and part-time staff. An interest in natural wines is essential, and hospitality experience is preferred. If you think you could be a good fit, please send an email to joel@wrightswine.co.uk

SPOTTED: near you 🤫

Over the past few months, we’ve had a constant stream of messages asking us ‘Where is Deep Brew’, but here’s the thing.

Deep Brew was created as a Limited Edition, but somewhere along the way, you got attached. Very attached.

Unfortunately, we can’t bring Deep Brew back for good, but the good news is we have got our hands on one more Limited batch.

The caveat? We’ve given every bar to some of our most loved independent stores across the country.

Scroll through the carousel to find out the exclusive stores holding on to Deep Brew whilst stocks last.

Four top-quality food shops have made this year’s Great Food Club Awards Shop of the Year final.

@marshgreencafe & farm shop, Kelstedge, Derbyshire
A Derbyshire farm shop offering local produce, fresh baking and a standout butcher’s counter from @robinmaycockbutchers.

@essen_generalstore, Beeston, Nottinghamshire
A modern deli-café with superb cheese and charcuterie, natural wines, craft beer and excellent sandwiches.

@northsdeli_rothley, Leicestershire
A long-established village deli and outstanding patisserie packed with carefully chosen cheeses, charcuterie, wines, fresh produce and baked goods.

@origin.farm shop, Rushton, Northamptonshire
A smart new farm shop with a good butchery counter and plenty of food and drink from independent producers across the region.

The winner will be revealed here on October 1.

Congratulations and good luck to Marsh Green Farm Shop, Essen General Store, North’s Deli and Origin Farm Shop. 🛍️

Our reigning champ is @thecheesesociety in Lincoln.

So… time for a quick bite to eat before opening up for the @abcartstrail today 11am-5am. My pottery is considerably better than my cooking despite top quality ingredients from the lovely people at @essen_generalstore who are one one the very kind sponsors of the event. Full details at www.abcartstrail … come and check out (the pottery not the cooking 😋)…

@flocbrewingtaproom - Citra: All Four DIPA - 8%

My first #dipa in a fortnight last night, and by golly it was a food un! Surprisingly thick, tons of mango and a lovely bit of pine bitterness cutting through there too. Big beer for a big lad.

Purchased at @essen_generalstore and supped at @jydpoho (after we’d closed, of course)!

Yesterday was CARB-HEAVY but brilliant! 🤩 👓 😋 👓

Great day on the road visiting some of the region's top independent bakeries, plus the superb @driverspickles and @essen_generalstore.

I was joined by special guest Liam from Leicestershire's @steepsodaco, our reigning Drinks Producer of the Year. If you haven't tried Steep Sodas, they are absolutely worth seeking out. 🏆

We visited @thetinybakeryle2 in Leicester, Drivers, @cooshbakery in Mapperley, @project, @breadmillbakery in @sneinton_market_avenues (that Umami Bun - wow!)

That wasn't enough, so we finished with a cheeseboard at Essen in Beeston!

These are a few pics from the day.

The only downside is we didn't make it to Baines Bakery in Uppingham. Next time.
