May the rivers forever flow to sing your name. In loving memory of Tom Longmate 24.10.1977 - 15.01.2026.

It is with great sadness that we received the message that our dear friend and team mate Tom Longmate had passed away all too soon. We had been together the last weeks with great excitement planning our future explorations and projects with Flumen Labs when we got the unbelievable news. We are determined to continue to honor Tom’s vision of building a better society as best of our abilities. We are grateful for the close contact we have gained with your family and friends from many corners of the world. And we hope to continue Tom’s work with developing the field of regenerative design by learning from his ever strong curiosity for the world around us. -From our little group at Flumen Labs.

First iteration of the Flow Lamp. Designed to be #3Dprinted with bio plastic made out of Bulbous rush (Krypsiv). The shape is inspired by the seeds of the plant and the teqnique by the way the plant flows in the riverbed with the stream of the water.

Two amphibious machines work in tandem; one to cut, and one to harvest the Krypsiv. It is then stored in a large fishing net until it can be transported for disposal on nearby farmlands, hilltops, or in some cases waste disposal.

We took a few sackfuls with us to continue our experiments in circular biomaterials.

Thanks to Elin at Amfibieservice AS for allowing us to come and see for ourselves, and thanks to @annatheasgard for putting us in touch 🤝🌾🏞️

Thanks to Amfibieservice AS for allowing us to document their Krypsiv removal operations at Kilefjorden. Special thanks to Alex for taking the time to explain the removal and disposal process, frequency and affected locations.

Flumen Labs is experimenting with Krypsiv (Juncus bulbosus), as a source of biomass for biomaterial experiments to replace plastics, papers and leathers, in art, design, and everyday products.

Krypsiv is displacing local species within the river ecosystem, as well as disrupting leisure activities such as swimming and fishing.

The left eye of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) with the right eye of science and technology. We used okra as a binding agent in our paper made from Juncus Bulbosus, inspired by ancient Korean Hanji papermaking techniques. Sokui rice glue joins the paper to the lamp frame, a centuries old practice from Japanese bookbinding. We blitzed the rice with water in a spice grinder and cooked it down in minutes

1KDA har hatt fagdag og fått sitt første møte med arkitektur.

Arkitekt Erick Thomas Allende var med oss og snakket om hvordan en arkitekt jobber, muligheter innenfor yrket og presenterte egne ulike arbeid.

Videre dro vi ut i byen og besøkt tre ulike bygg;
- Kristiansand bibliotek
- Kristiansand domkirke
- Kunstsiloen
