#WithBlackVanClub @couchjamscollective “Love Me in December” at the Biltmore Cabaret. Couch Jams is a vital cornerstone of Vancouver’s growing vibrant music scene, and its latest edition, “Love Me in December”, was no exception. A celebration of indie, R&B, jazz, and rap, the night delivered an incredible showcase of QTBIPOC talent.

Hosted by the charismatic Sam Darkoh and featuring the DJ stylings of Gluve, who spun throwback RnB hits all night, the event exuded nostalgia and energy from start to finish. The performers captivated the audience with their raw talent and eclectic styles, supported by a phenomenal 8-piece house band that elevated every set. Artists Shina, Etchos, Maya Jade, Emerald Osagie, Cœurtis, Shamir Virgo, Haleluya Hailu, Leral, and Fleetwood Huey showcased the best of Vancouver’s thriving music scene, with background vocalists adding layers of richness to their performances.

Beyond the music, the night carried a poignant significance as it marked a heartfelt farewell to Tiara Cash @tiara_cash10 , a foundational force behind Couch Jams and an influential figure in the BIPOC music and wellness community. Tiara, the founder of Crowned Vitta LLC, a Ph.D. Psychology student at SFU, and a certified Koru mindfulness instructor, has left an indelible mark in the city through her innovative Equitable Mindfulness Framework and her inspiring book, “Little Brown Girl, You Belong.” Her dedication to Couch Jams Collective was celebrated with tears, gratitude, and love, as her contributions were honored that night.

The night culminated in an incredible finale: Muni Long’s “Made For Me”, performed by Franky as lead, with the backing choir of performers delivering harmonies so flawless they felt transcendent. It was an amazing showcase of the unity, artistry, and passion that define Couch Jams.

Love Me in December wasn’t just a music event—it was a family gathering, a tribute to resilience, and a testament to the hard work poured into this collective. Couch Jams continues to uplift and amplify BIPOC and marginalized voices, cementing its place as an essential platform in Vancouver’s music and arts community.

#WithBlackVanClub @couchjamscollective Halloween Open Mic @vanblacklibrary #vancouveropenmic 🎙️🎶

This edition of Couch Jams’ open mic at the Vancouver Black Library was a Halloween -themed show, complete with the soulful sounds of RnB during the open mic session, and vibrant costumes that brought a playful and festive vibe to the evening. The live band, complete with background singers, provided the perfect backdrop to the artists, and the addition of Halloween candy and hair raising stories was just the right touch for the Halloween season.

But don’t worry if you missed out! Couch Jams is only getting started. They’re expanding and have two artist showcases lined up at the Cobalt on November 30th and December 15th.

The November show will feature your favorite local BIPOC artists serving up some smooth RnB. The December show, on the other hand - a 90s themed party, will take you on a nostalgic trip back to the 90s, featuring a lineup of local BIPOC artists covering the greatest RnB tracks from the decade. And, of course, the open mic nights will continue to be a staple, providing a platform for emerging BIPOC talent. It’s the perfect opportunity to show some love and support for local BIPOC artists while having an incredible time. Hope to see you there!
