Day 16 of the journey! Part 2 of 3. Met with the one and only @ethanullman of @2000inch for drinks and dinner! I had an awesome time man. Thanks so much for hanging out! And he gifted me with an incredible artifact. A 27cm x 27cm square of carpet from the original Twine Ball Inn in Darwin, MN!!!

I have many tattoos. I do not come by them impulsively. There is some truth to it being addictive, but I am not impetuous and have a strict criterion for what I will permanently etched into my flesh.

The following story may sound like a contradiction to that, but trust me it is not.

After standing in a couple of Weird Al VIP lines, my reverence for him doesn’t even hold a candle to some, but I am a fan.

Dare to be Stupid was my first album. Not my first Weird Album; my FIRST album. It was also my first concert at the Starlight Theater when I was 8. He opened for The Monkees, whom I was also excited to see having seen them on Nickelodeon. I didn’t understand the concept of syndication so was certainly confused when these very old men took the stage that night. It didn’t matter because I had just seen Weird Al. He came into the theater to sign autographs. I went up and waited. They dimmed the lights for folks to take their seats. He turned and brushed past me.

“I’ll never wash my arm again!”

This summer after seeing him I decide maybe I should get a tattoo that honors him. It felt right. Nothing crazy, and not in a conspicuous area of my body. Every tattoo I’ve gotten is either for a sober milestone or a tribute to someone who has passed. Each one had a considerable thought process.

I thought “if I get his signature, I’ll get THAT tattooed.” But that didn’t feel right. So, I tried to think of one of my most favorite quotes. I thought of my favorite song, Dare to be Stupid.

“Mashed potatoes can be your friends.”

Instantly, I was sure. Mashed potatoes are my all-time favorite food. Whenever forced to answer the hypothetical “last meal before execution” discussion the answer was always emphatically “mashed potatoes.”

Weird Al is the nicest human. He’s so talented and smart and funny and humble on top of it all. It’s happy memory from a childhood that wasn’t always the happiest. I’m caring for my inner child now, and I’m feeding her mashed potatoes.

@yankochick38 and I were in the right place at the right time (as were @ethanullman and @jnrsamples), and I didn’t have anything Al related for @alfredyankovic to sign, so he signed the brim of my hat! See you next time, Al!

aaaaa it takes me so long to put these together because it's so difficult to narrow down an entire WEEK of awesomeness into just a few photos!!! Even one NIGHT was hard!! 😵 Here's the most fun from night one of leg two of the Bigger & Weirder tour that Instagram would allow me to post all at once!! Night one is always so special!! It's so great to be able to fly out and attend the sound check with everyone!! ✈🎶👯‍♀️💖Payton wore Billy, I handed out noisemakers to everyone and Payton played hers during POLKAMANIA!!?!?, FREE waters were procured, nice beavers were witnessed, Will is still not allowed to take pictures (sorry Will 😢), Puddles has a special new guitar!!, Mission Statement is the only song where I take pictures rather than video apparently (until I remember that part in the middle where Al does the shirt thing 🤫), Monique & Little Al joined our group photo!!!, my clown name was canonized by my main man 😎🤡💖, and, of course, we experienced the glorious return of the silliest & most ridiculously self-indulgent, ill-advised photo pose: touching butts 🍑🍑✨(I think he's probably sick of it at this point but it makes me laugh every time I see it lmao 🙃 thank you for putting up with my shenanigans, Alfie Baby 💗💘💖) part 1/...4?? #weirdalyankovic #bigger&weirder2026 #hardrockhollywood #thisishowhashtagsworkright

Happy birthday to my friend @ethanullman!!! (ignore the random guy in the middle lol)

Hope you have the best birthday ever! 💫

ALL JOKES ASIDE Ethan invited my whole family out to see THE legendary William Shatner live when they came to Charlotte on tour last month and we had SO much fun. These two together are absolutely hilarious and Ethan surprised both of us by wearing this shirt he made with an iconic Weird Al lyric ☝️🤓 Also Mr. Shatner is SO NICE! Totally aspiring to be like him at age 95.
