Ceuta’s borders are our common European borders.

Our priority remains clear: all those who entered illegally and have no right to stay must swiftly return.

We need to learn our lessons: close gaps, control our external borders, and preserve Schengen.

What happens when someone crosses the European border irregularly? 🇪🇺

They are taken to a Reception and Identification Centre. There, people are told their rights, their obligations and what comes next for their case.

The centres are run by the Member States, with @euasylumagency, @unmigration and Frontex supporting their work.

In Greece alone, Frontex works in Chios, Lesvos, Samos, Kos, Leros, Malakasa and Diavata. Since June, over 6,000 people registered with our support.

Stranded and alone in Ceuta, a Spanish territory on the African continent, hundreds of Moroccan migrants face harsh conditions and an uncertain future after a border influx disappeared as quickly as it appeared.

🎥 What is the new #Eurodac, and why does it matter?

🎥 In operation since 12 June 2026, the new Eurodac brings expanded capabilities to the EU’s digital architecture for asylum and migration management. It strengthens interoperability between EU IT systems and supports national authorities in implementing the new legal framework.

🎥 Watch our new video to learn what has changed and how eu-LISA and EU Member States operate the system.

👏 Many thanks to @euasylumagency for the great cooperation in producing this video.

🟥After the publication of our joint statement “Greece’s Implementation of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum: Institutionalising Exception, Detention and Deprivation of Rights”, the European Ombudsman, Emily O’Reilly, has yesterday confirmed many of these concerns. Her latest findings highlight cases of maladministration in how the EU Agency for Asylum (EUAA) supports the Greek authorities in processing asylum applications.
