The @hmartofficial cookbook is here! I got to work as a food stylist on a few pages of this beautiful book, photographed by @nothinginpassing . Huge congrats to the entire team for all the incredible work that went into bringing it to life.

This project was created by an all-star group of Asian talent, including @yooeating , @jamesyworld , @elyseinamine , @ericjoonho , @goudatalks , @eugenejho , H Mart President Stacey Kwon, and so many others. It’s such a privilege to get to work alongside brilliant friends and people I admire. 🙂‍↕️ Pick up a copy for your next H Mart shopping trip!

Welcome to the world, H Mart: The Cookbook! I had the opportunity (and delight) to work as a writer on this incredible cookbook about the Korean supermarket you all know and love with an incredible team: @julep30, @liaronnen, @beckmann_brooke, @suetchong, @theindigobunting, @nothinginpassing, @eugenejho, @bartoshesky, @ericjoonho, @goudatalks, @alexandrabeggs, @thelescook, @dsvetcov, @cowlesagency, and so many others at H Mart, Artisan, and beyond. A special thank you to Stacey—it’s so cool that we worked on that H Mart story for Food & Wine all the years ago and now have this book!—and to my extremely talented, ride-or-die collaborators: @yooeating, our fearless project director, and @jamesyworld, our recipe developer extraordinaire. With each visit to H Mart, I learned so much from you two, the past, present, and future of Korean food stocked in the shelves, and about you two, as we spent time together in the aisles, on the phone going over edits and headnotes, and at the table to taste through recipes in progress. I’m proud of what we created together 💕 So pick up a copy of H Mart: The Cookbook and bring it with you on your next shopping trip!

Some exciting news 🛒 ⋆✴︎˚。⋆❣️H Mart: The Cookbook is out October 6, and ya girl is one of the contributing writers!!! This was a dream gig, mostly because I got to channel my inner H Mart anthropologist and dig into one of my favorite supermarkets of all time.

It’s a cookbook so expect recipes that will keep you busy (and full!) for weeks. But you’ll also find fun and informative stories that go beyond what’s on the shelves, plus nuggets of Korean history and food science...like the unexpected connection between persimmons and the origins of Hangul, the hi-tech world of Cuckoo rice cookers (and what makes them extra superior), and the sweat-inducing, brow-moistening tale behind the world’s favorite ramyun.

I feel indescribably grateful to be part of this talented crew of writers and creatives, and I can’t wait for you to hold it in your hands. Preorder it now or pick it up at your local bookstore (or H Mart!) when it’s out.

Goddammit. So fucking happy to be in NYC last week, to see so many friends and family, and to be with people from all parts of my past and present for the opening of “Imperishable Change That Renovates the World”@morganlehmangallery .

In this moment that seems defined by dissolution and collapse, I keep returning to the cycles of renovation and regeneration that surround us, that are close: night and day, the seasons, the ecosystems that sustain us. These cycles embody the radial and interconnected processes through which energy and matter are constantly transformed and networked across scales. But while these processes are universal and vast, sometimes we need to see (or I need to see, at least,) that they are right in front of us.

The wheel turns.

And in the spirit of the wheel turning, I got to see LA friends in NYC! I got to see our old loft (made WAY nicer by a dear friend), old neighbors, colleagues, cohorts, neighborhoods, trains, great shows, just a freaking great time.

I love you, NY. I love you, LA. With each turn of the wheel, the world adds more.
