POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I was raised by strong and independent women: my three cousins, our three mothers (sisters to each other) all under the example of my grandmother, Theresa (or Grandma Terry as I called her), who lived a life full of all of the emotions. She felt everything, and with the joys of that also came more sorrow than I think anyone else could have handled. But, she did, and still managed to be kind, compassionate and above all taught me and my family how to “love unconditionally”. I talked with her about everything while on long drives all across the country and always visited her and sat with her as soon as I got back from any trip. She might not of thought it about herself but she was wise, brave, fiercely independent and sharp as a tack to the last moment. And although I may have been two feet taller than her there’s so much in her I looked up to. She passed 9/13/26 at 97 years old.

The Newtown, Indiana Mural

This one has been a long time coming. The good people of Newtown got the wheels turning almost 3 years ago, and I was lucky enough to be the last piece of the puzzle. I am so honored to be the artist they chose to bring this concept to life.

Let me rewind and present a bit of a backstory because this monster of a mural honors two separate but connected pieces of history:

First — in 1935, Newtown, Indiana (population: 200) hosted the National Cornhusking Contest. That might not sound huge now, but at the time it was like having the Super Bowl in your backyard. Over 100,000 people showed up. I’ve seen the photos — it was a sight to behold.

Second — it honors Lawrence Pitzer, a local cornhusking champion. He didn’t win in ‘35, but he came back and won the National Contest in 1939. That date and his name live on in the mural — memorialized on the first-place ribbon and painted on the backboard of the wagon.

I can’t thank everyone involved enough for the kindness and support you showed me and my assistants during 11 grueling days in the heat.

A huge thank you to Tetia from @theartsfed — the project manager who organized and oversaw my involvement. You were an absolute dream to work with.

Thank you to my intern Evers, who drove out with me and assisted the first few days, before I drove him back to Philly for his first day of college at Temple’s Tyler School of Art!

And thank you to Kristin @ seaofdoom for immediately turning around and driving back with me to assist (and keep me sane) during those last few days.

I proudly consider this mural part of a larger body of work I call my Heritage Series — honoring and illustrating a community’s history and culture in a way that feels both new and timeless.

I can’t wait for the next one.

Here’s 4500 square feet of grain bin I painted in 127 hrs over 10 days using 25 gallons of paint and roughly 160 cans of spray paint broken down into a minute for your viewing pleasure.

What you don’t get to see is the 720 miles (one way) I drove to get to this giant. Or all the great people I saw and met along the way. The help I got from @mr.evers1 and @seaofdoom the amazing management of @theartsfed @wabashwalls . Or what working on a mural this size does to you. Hope you enjoy.
