For us, fog in Venice was a dream.

When we set out to make Il Doge: A Portrait of Redemption, I knew I wanted to shoot in black and white. And I couldn’t have asked for a better collaborator than our cinematographer, Daniel Everitt-Lock, who not only embraced that vision completely, but fully and enthusiastically supported it from the very beginning.

Then Venice gave us the fog.

We didn’t need to create an atmosphere. Venice gave us one.

And together, we made a film inside it. One where Venice became a character all of its own.

This Sunday, Daniel is nominated for a Canadian Society of Cinematographers Award for his work on Il Doge: A Portrait of Redemption.

And I couldn’t be prouder. 🖤🎬

A big shoutout to our entire cast & crew & sponsors & for all the support we’ve received along the way: THANK YOU!

Here are some behind the scenes snaps during the early days of filming Il Doge: A Portrait of Redemption. Including when we decided to film in a helicopter because a certain hotel wouldn’t allow us to film inside - so we filmed it from above 🤣. The crew on a vaporetto AKA water bus for the first time. Always trying to keep up with Giampaolo! Filming inside a beautiful church - we won’t say which, but if you know, you know 😉 Filming and also having the best meal of our lives at Da Romano’s in Burano. Daniel, our incredible DOP, changing the tire of our car in Rome, just when we had our equipment stolen 🙈 Trying to navigate the busy Venice canals with our little boat. Fun times! Thank you kindly to our amazing crew!!

Here’s how the first month went as a full time freelance photographer!

I’d say not too shabby. A lot of networking and events to focus on building connection and community.

It helps I’m pretty chuffed with the images I got from these events.

All shot with @sony.unitedkingdom A7IV and a mix of the 70-200 as well as the @sigmauk 24-70

This month is gonna be very fun with some Europe travels and personal branding shoots lined up 🇧🇪🇩🇪🇫🇷

My first time attending @worcesterfilmfestival and was so impressed with their incredible events and films on show. Thanks for having me!

An amazing experience visiting @worcestercityfc

Great to connect and begin working with @beythenoise capturing live music. In frame @felicityymitchell

Words by @carole_pope from the song Weapons by legendary band Rough Trade

Spoken word performed by @albeaton in the film @purgatoryjackmovie

We were lucky enough to have three Rough Trade songs in the film. Their rebellious and trailblazing nature served as inspiration while writing the script.

Cinematography by @everittlock

I recently had the opportunity to do my first ever acting role in a brilliant comedy series written by our friend Brendan Berne. He just happens to be former Australia Ambassador to France amongst his many skills and talents. The show is a spoof on diplomacy in Zellesia, a small (fictitious) island. I was a complete novice amongst a team of wonderful professional actors and crew, and our time spent filming the first episode was absolutely precious…and hilarious too!
