Gibb Highlights | Part 1 of 3 🤎

A little trip down memory lane…

We’ve been reminiscing about our time on the Gibb River Road, and it’s impossible not to smile looking back at these moments.

This adventure challenged us, surprised us, and gave us memories we’ll be talking about for years.

Who’s heading there this season? 🙋🏽‍♀️

One of our biggest worries before taking off on this adventure was whether the kids would get enough social interaction. Would they struggle to make friends? Would they miss having a consistent group around them?

We couldn’t have been more wrong.

This lifestyle has pushed them to step outside their comfort zones, introduce themselves to new kids, and build friendships quickly. They soon realised that either they or their new friends could be heading off to their next destination at any moment.

The first few months weren’t always easy. They had to learn how to process the emotions that came with saying goodbye to friends they had only just met. But with every farewell came new friendships, new experiences, and growing confidence.

What has surprised us most is the depth of the connections they’ve made. The friendships formed with other travelling families are built on shared adventures, unforgettable experiences, and memories woven together along the way.

Now our conversations are filled with “Remember when...” and “I miss...” as they talk about friends from all over the country.

Looking back, we never should have worried. If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that our kids aren’t just making friends.They’re making lifelong memories with people they’ll never forget.

Have you ever worried about your kids making friends while travelling, homeschooling, or moving somewhere new? We’d love to hear your experience 👇

Van life myths… BUSTED 🚐💥
“It’s dangerous.”
“You need a huge fancy set-up.”
“You’ll have endless free time.”
“It’s all beaches and sunsets.”
Real Big Lappers say… not quite 😅
In this Big Questions compilation, families and couples travelling Australia share the biggest myths they discovered once they actually hit the road.

Featuring:
@samandjackvswild
@wellmans_on_wheels

From breakdowns and bad weather to toilet stops every 30 minutes with kids, this is the REAL side of van life in Australia.

Big takeaway? You don’t need the perfect rig, unlimited money, or retirement status to get out there.

“If we did it again… we’d keep it simpler.” 👀

That’s the BIGGEST takeaway from travellers already doing the Big Lap.
We asked legends on the road what they’d change about their setup, and the answers are gold. 💡
From @travelling_sands, realising you don’t need a $100k rig…
To @everydazeasunday, balancing budget vs weight…
To @awphysiofinance upgrading their car mid-trip due to GVM limits…

The truth? There’s no perfect setup. 🚐

But there ARE things you can learn before you go.

Before the Big Lap… it wasn’t all sunsets and freedom 😅
It was:
⏰ 60-hour work weeks
🚗 Long commutes
📆 Only seeing your partner once a week
👨👩👧👦 Missing time with your kids
🔁 Living for the weekend

These legends
@mccram_adventures
@goosens_are_trippin
@rampt.up.travels
@everydazeasunday
@chd_on_tour all had good lives… but they wanted more.

More time.
More freedom.
More life.

So they made the call to leave it behind and hit the road 🚐✨
And honestly? This is the part of the journey most people don’t talk about.

👉 If you’re feeling stuck in the grind… this one will hit home.
