It’s been a long month of reflection, advocacy, and sharing our stories.

I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who participated in and supported our 30-Day Sickle Cell Challenge. Thank you for lending your voice, sharing your story, and helping create a space where so many people felt seen and heard.

I can’t wait to go through every entry again and reflect on the impact we’ve made together as a community.

As our 4th annual 30-Day Sickle Cell Challenge comes to an end, this is where we draw the curtain—for now.

I already can’t wait to do this with you all again next year. ❤️

But please remember, our advocacy doesn’t end here. Every single day is an opportunity to share your story, educate someone, inspire hope, and remind another warrior that they are not alone.

I’m rooting for every one of you. And always remember you have a community standing with you, so never feel alone on this journey.

I missed @sami.update Volunteer Retreat and Awards Ceremony over the weekend, but I wasn’t about to let my awards sit in the SAMI office forever, so I went to pick them up.
Honestly holding them made it real.
@sami.update recognized me in two categories; Community Impact Service, for the work done through @everythingsicklecell , the awareness, the conversations, and most recently the “Dear Sickle Cell Warrior, You Are Not a Burden” programme, a 6-week session where we equipped warriors with practical skills like social media management, community management and graphics design. and helped a few secure internships.
The second was a Leadership & Legacy Recognition for serving as Lead Volunteer from 2021 to 2025.
I started this journey with SAMI over eight years ago and I’m still here, still learning, still showing up in every way I can. That continuity and growth is something I don’t take for granted.
These awards is for everyone who has supported this work in any way, shown up, encouraged, or simply believed it mattered. You’re part of this too.

While planning the comedy show for the Warriors, I wanted to create a day they’d never forget; a break from the ordinary where they’d just have fun and feel celebrated.

I wanted a warrior to remind others of their superpowers, that there’s no limit to their dreams... Then I reached out to @everythingsicklecell ... and she said ‘Israel, hold my cup of zobo’ 🥹

Those words carry so much weight, so much grace. @everythingsicklecell Thank you for being a reminder of resilience and hope ❤️🫂

I look forward to a 2026 where the narrative changes, one thing I am beginning to embrace is the genuine impossibly of totally eradicating sickle cell, it can definitely be managed to a more reduced population but I think one of the focus we should have this year is the improvement of health care, accessible health care, the main reason why we clamor on the compatibility awareness is because of the poor quality of life lived by sickle cell warriors which makes them go through a lifetime of pain and complication.

The genuine truth is that someone in one coven rural community is planning to marry their partner without knowledge of genotype compatibility and awareness.
The conversation is a lot but I can assure you that getting improved health care will help improve the lives of those living with the sickle cell condition and at the end of the day it’s another alphabet curated to just mean something.

Another thing to focus on is the quality of lives lived by those living with the condition, don’t sell the limitation, let’s focus on the quality of their mind, quality of their personality and how they can be persons of Value. As much as I preach genotype compatibility, this year I want to see warriors dominating every sphere of influence, breaking limit and doing BIG THINGS!

I am thankful for the ability to love and be loved, I really was blessed with the gift of men this year, men as friends, not the masculine gender now but I friends both male and female, and I am really thankful for their presence in my life, they make it more beautiful.

Thankful for laughter 😆, it’s surreal how a smile and laughter can make us go from ugly to beautiful. Thankful for opportunities and situations that leave me laughing. It reminds me of the beauty of life

Thankful for the privilege to desire for life’s beautiful things. The privilege to dream. Living with a chronic illness can make you shut your senses of dreaming especially on days when the pain is excruciating and persistence, you could really not habe a desire for life itself but I am grateful for the privilege to have big dreams and aspirations and the desire to move towards them everyday.
