Happy 11th Wedding Anniversary to the love of my life.

It only feels like yesterday that we celebrated our love in front of dear friends and family, and it continues to astonish me how my love deepens and grows.

An incredible partner, mother, lover, friend, creative muse, supporter, guide (the list is endless)

Here’s to all the future chapters and stories yet to be written 😘 ❤️

For years I felt like I was "too much" for Australian workplaces.

Too loud. Overly confident. And too colourful for Melbourne. When I landed in the city known for its black corporate uniform, I didn't own a single piece of black clothing.

It took a few "career-limiting moves" before I learned about tall poppy syndrome.

I finally had a name for what I'd been feelinhttps://app.socialpilot.co/posts/calendar#g and experiencing.

Here's what I've learned as a career coach: Tall poppy syndrome doesn't just affect confidence. It actively sabotages job searches.

If you've spent your career trying not to stand out, how do you suddenly sell yourself in an interview? How do you tell your story in the first person? How do you claim your achievements without cringing?

My Australian clients struggle with this more than my international clients. And it's not because they lack achievements. It's because they've been trained to downplay them.

The term "tall poppy syndrome" is Australian. But the impulse exists in other cultures as well:
→ Scandinavia has the "Law of Jante"
→ Japan says "the nail that sticks out gets hammered down"
→ The Dutch call it "maaiveldcultuur" — don't stick your head above the mowing field

Different words. Same dynamic.

I was honoured to discuss this on SBS Insight with Kumi Taguchi. Thank you to Kumi and the entire SBS Insight team for your warmth and professionalism — and especially to producer Kiara Mezzina for reaching out.

If you've ever felt like you had to shrink yourself to fit in at work, this episode will resonate.
