This evening’s concert was so meaningful. ❤️ such a beautiful blend of different sound worlds. Alan, Mark, Jia-Rong, Graham, Leanne, and I had so much fun bringing this novel music to the audience. I was thinking tonight about how the Indian composer G. N. Joshi, whose composition I sang tonight (and recorded on my first album “Pitāmbar”), would never have imagined seeing one of his compositions posted on the program of a western orchestra, and how beautiful it is that such things are able to happen in today’s beautifully interconnected world. Additionally, there was no notation of this song, just one beautiful recording sung by Geeta Dutt. I’m sure she would have never imagined that this song she recorded one day (that has gone mostly forgotten) would be revived in this setting.

Moments like this wouldn’t have happened if not for the vision, openness, and optimism of the Philharmonic’s new conductor, Roger Kalia. I was also so touched to see my first oboe teacher Dr. Robertson there— she took the picture of me with the painting of Durga Mata (that was painted by a dear auntie of mine, Daya Krishna).

My mom also cooked for everyone, which was totally unexpected for everyone!! That too amazing food that took ALL DAY to prepare! Her famous creamy kofta curry, rice pulao, lentils/daal, samosa, aloo paratha, homemade tamarind chutney, and of course gulab jamun for dessert! 💕 Only my mom would go out of her way like that for others— that too without a single complaint, & without even having been asked! Just to make something special. 😊 And then of course, it was Mark’s birthday, and Jia-Rong bought him a delicious tiramisu cake (she’s so sweet!) that I literally ended up eating half of. 😂 I am grateful for today. 🌺

I’m spending a lot of time today with Roger Kalia. Mostly we are talking about wanting to be rockstars. He already is. I’m still a work in progress. #anyroadtv
