Welcome to the world, 𝑫𝒆𝒆𝒓𝒃𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈, my new single! 🦌👣🎧🎻🤍🔁

This recording is the biblically accurate version of a largely improv’d piece I’ve been playing for the last two years. I’ve been exploring the idea of return in my creative and personal life, and at 34, I feel like whatever questions I still have for the world have likely already been answered in one way or another; all I have to do is go over the game tape again to find it. Though by returning to a special place physically, emotionally, spiritually, even sonically, I found you inevitably learn something new. A new coin drops onto the pile and pushes a payload every so often. The same applies to music, never the same loop twice.

The proper track was recorded, mixed, and mastered by my immensely talented friend, Sam Clapp. We recorded at Marmalade here in Chicago, where our duoship also took form (more on that later...). Couldn’t be happier with how it turned out 🥲

While you’re there, try out the live version on the b-side, a one-shot recording from Estlin Usher’s Intervention series I played at Innertown Pub back in May of this year. These 2 recordings feel like ‘acoustic’ and ‘electric’ sibling pieces, even though it’s all electroacoustic running in the family.

Perhaps you could listen to this somewhere special to you, like LaBagh Woods, Waveland Clocktower, or some other warm place while you can. (BTW, no field recordings on this track btw; be in one yourself.) Return to where you return.

Thank you so much to Sam, Mara Lee, my family, Yon Bon Yovi crew, Jack, Alan, CN: New Blood, and so many others who enrich my life every day with their joy, lend’d ear, and profound support. Also listeners like you. Thank you.

TUESDAY THE 28TH: as the leaves turn, an evening of midwestern sonic surrealism in Avondale-from an insane cast of innovators and outsiders. Andy Ortmann headlines to doubtless melt minds with his electronic abstractions. Noise Shrine graces the space with her liminal beats adorned with artifacts of almost nostalgic dream haze. And joining signal decay’s cacophony of rust belt imaginary will be a highly rare sighting of the High Priest of “Fuck Jazz” … BLUE MOVIES in his first appearance in years. ex.esn will be on the decks for the evening, weaving in delirious pulses amid the sounds of the breathing world. UNMISSABLE GIG GET OUT THERE ON TIME DM FOR DETAILS

At our Museum, we spend a lot of time thinking about all of the amazing things the body can do. And while our primary way of honoring the things the body can do is through our collection, another way that we appreciate the body and its mechanics is through hosting performances.

Performance - whether musical, theatrical, or other - is a highly physical act that engages the mind and the muscles, bringing together an audience for an artistic moment of community. From virtuosic performances to performances that directly engage ideas around health and human performance we at IMSS are grateful to be able to expand conversations had around health in this perhaps unexpected way and are so appreciative to the folks who have brought our spaces alive with movement and sound. We are also grateful to all of you who attend our programs and make it possible for us to continue to offer these conversations.
