100 points and only 360 bottles made. A pretty rare German Riesling 🇩🇪🥂

2022 Wagner-Stempel EMT Riesling trocken VDP.Versteigerungswein joins the cellar.

EMT is Daniel Wagner’s special selection from the heart of the Siefersheimer Heerkretz, one of the great vineyards of Rheinhessen. And the name has a nice story behind it: EMT isn’t an abbreviation or a vineyard name. It was the name of the neighbouring winegrowing family from whom Daniel bought this old parcel in 2001.

The parcel sits in the central and most exposed part of the Heerkretz. For EMT, Daniel selects the best grapes from this core section and makes a tiny amount specifically for the VDP auction.

In 2022 that meant just 360 bottles.

It is a more concentrated and uncompromising expression of Heerkretz than the GG: ripe peach and citrus, herbs and florals, but above all lots of stone, salt and acidity. Powerful and quite rich for Riesling, yet still very precise and fresh.

And 2022 seems to be a particularly special EMT. James Suckling gave it a perfect 100 points, and Wine Advocate described it as richer and drier than the Heerkretz GG, with enormous saline and rocky intensity.

A fascinating bottle from Daniel Wagner, and with only 360 made, certainly not one you come across very often.

An exceptionally rare German Riesling joins the cellar: 2022 EMT Riesling Trocken VDP.Versteigerungswein from Wagner-Stempel @weingutwagnerstempel .

Few German wineries have risen to international prominence as impressively as Wagner-Stempel. Under Daniel Wagner, the estate in Siefersheim has become one of Rheinhessen's absolute benchmarks, with the volcanic vineyards of Heerkretz producing Rieslings of extraordinary precision, minerality and longevity.

The name EMT is not a vineyard, nor an abbreviation. It refers to the neighbouring winegrowing family from whom Daniel Wagner purchased the original heart of the Heerkretz vineyard in 2001. This tiny parcel forms the core of the VDP.GROSSE LAGE and every year only the very best fruit is selected to produce the EMT—a wine made exclusively for the prestigious VDP wine auction. Only around 360 bottles are released each year, making it one of Germany's rarest dry Rieslings.

The warm but beautifully balanced 2022 vintage gave the wine remarkable concentration without sacrificing freshness. Layers of citrus, white peach, herbs and crushed stone are supported by immense tension, saline minerality and a finish that seems endless. It is a powerful yet incredibly refined Riesling that will continue to evolve for decades.

International critics have been equally enthusiastic. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded the 2022 EMT 96 points, praising its purity, depth and spectacularly long saline finish, while Mosel Fine Wines highlighted its enormous ageing potential.

A true collector's bottle and one of the most exclusive expressions of German Riesling.
