I had to comment on this one. What a bold claim to make about God’s character.

“But the context” ? I’m sorry, but we learned about context clues in first grade. It’s crucial to our understanding of what we are reading. And.. There’s no context where this is morally acceptable- and you’ve twisted scripture.

2 Samuel 12:9-12 “Why did you despise the word of the LORD by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.’ “This is what the LORD says: ‘Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity on you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will sleep with your wives in broad daylight. You did it in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight before all Israel.’ ””

1. Original Hebrew translation- I will bring calamity; I will raise up evil
2. The Lord described David’s actions as evil. And in response he says he will raise up evil. God does not cause evil, but he will permit it. Causing evil is contrary to Gods character. He does not need to cause what people will inherently do. He will step back as part of divine judgment and allow a sequence of natural consequences to unfold- but he does not cause evil.
3. Both 1 and 2 Samuel show us a story of political power and struggle, idolatry and personal desire, Gods will vs free will, and what happens when he lets us have it our way. The punishment is letting us experience the natural consequences without intervention.

If you’re going to call yourself a deconstructionist, then do some actual deconstructing. I deconstructed the passage. You reconstructed it.

And you don’t have to listen to me. Ask God to show you himself.

Whoever has ears, let them hear.

Galatians 1:8
Galatians 3:3

Comment PODCAST below and I’ll send you the link to hear Jake’s full story 👇

Jake was a pastor’s son raised with all the ‘good’ Christian teachings.

‘Anyone who doesn’t believe in Christ is going to hell’

‘You’re a sinner who is unworthy without the blood of Christ’

This rhetoric, a form of religious abuse and spiritual abuse, was taught by church leaders who claimed to have a divine hotline to God.

The same Christian churches taught that general human goodness was meaningless because anyone following a different faith or culture deserves eternal punishment.

Jake traveled. He sat across from Hindus, atheists, agnostics. And they were whole, kind humans who were, by any honest measure, good.

For the first time in his life, he questioned the idea of hell with the same scrutiny he’d apply to any other belief.

Once he put Christian theology under real scrutiny, the ugly nature of evangelical doctrine became apparent.

After truly examining Christian mythology, Jake realised: ‘I’m not convinced.’

Because a religion teaching eternal punishment for anyone born into a different faith or culture doesn’t value diversity and inclusion. It’s teaching blind obedience and hate.

Jake saw the provoke with that equation. Now he’s an exvangelical speaking out, one of many voices in the growing faith deconstruction and religious trauma conversation.

Jake’s parents dropped him off early to kids church thinking that he was safe. His abuser was a female youth group leader who was a trusted figure in the church.

As a child, Jake didn’t have words to describe what was happening to him. He only knew he had a weird secret that made him feel uncomfortable. He went on to develop PTSD, panic attacks and anxiety.

Looking back he says, “Because of the authoritarian structure of a lot of evangelical churches, it attracts a lot of predators and people who take advantage of those power positions.”

In the end, Jake decided that this is not his shame to carry. He speaks out against religious abuse, spiritual abuse and faith deconstruction. Comment PODCAST to hear his story.

Comment PODCAST and I’ll send you the episode link on finding your voice 💬❤️

I stood on keynote stage, said "I am an abuse survivor" for the first time in my life, and broke down in front of hundreds of people.

I had never said those words out loud.

I didn't even know that was my story.

I don't remember writing it into my talk.

My body wrote that line because part of me knew I was ready to publicly name what had happened to me.

I grew up in an abusive religious cult.

Nobody inside would have permitted me to use the word "abuse" for what I was living through. Even after leaving my family wouldn’t admit it.

And a thing without a name cannot be questioned, cannot be spoken, cannot be exposed. It just controls your life and keeps you in the dark.

Here is what I learned, after years of doing trauma work with myself and clients.

High-control systems don't just harm you. A cult, a church, a family, a relationship. They withhold the vocabulary you would need to recognise the harm and extricate yourself. You stay trapped.

You don't speak because you've healed. Speaking is how you find out what happened to you at all and take back your power.

So if you've done oceans of inner work but you still can’t find the courage to break silence, you're not broken.

You're missing language, not courage. And your body already knows how to heal. Give it a book, a stage, a voice note, anything.

Your story can't become your power until you give it words.

Deconstruction is realizing how many of yours were taken—labeled “too much,” “too sensitive,” “be nice.”
So you start questioning. Then unlearning. Then choosing.
And suddenly… you’re not as easy to access anymore.
Good.

Imagine realizing… the person you’ve been your whole life was built on things you never questioned.
Not a lie. Just… not yours.
And now everything cracks.
This is what it sounds like when someone starts waking up.

Announcing my next documentary feature film! KID WITH A MOVIE CAMERA.

This film has been in the making my whole life and it’s been the main project I’ve been living with the last couple years.

Kid With a Movie Camera is built from decades of archive footage, interviews, old homemade videos I shot as a kid, animation, and re-creation sequences. It’s a deeply personal attempt to understand how a video camera became my escape, my lifeline, and eventually my way of confronting the evangelical faith I was raised in.

It’s a subject that’s been close to me for as long as I can remember—one that’s quietly poured into my work over the years. It took time to realize, but this is the theme I now understand I’m drawn to exploring, and the one I feel compelled to keep confronting through my films and art.

I’m incredibly grateful to the people who helped bring this into existence. Huge thank you to Bogdan Darev and Ben Johnson for making this film happen (through @filmabeestudios ), @cscurrier for helping me realize it as our DP. @narimeow our amazing marketing lead at Filmabee and the entire team who poured themselves into this. Truly couldn’t have done it without you.

Releasing later this year.

Festival announcements, screenings, and more to come.

Stay tuned.

Please follow our official page which we just dropped yesterday for updates on the movie. @kwamc.movie
