We are small business owners. But that is only one of our many titles.

This Small Business Week, we’re raising a glass to the small businesses that build something from the ground up, show up for their communities, and keep local economies moving.

We want to take a moment to celebrate the women behind so many of those businesses. Femmepreneurs make up only about one in five private sector businesses in Canada. Many of the women who run them have pushed past harder access to financing, fewer networks, and the quiet assumption that they’ll carry everything at home too. Then they show up and do it anyway, often wearing more hats than anyone sees.

Salt & Spruce was built by two women who have worn many hats and are trying on new ones everyday. So hats off to the founders, makers, mothers, dreamers, and the bad-ass ShEO's. We see you, and we’re cheering you on.

Tag a woman-owned business you love in the comments. Let’s give them the recognition they deserve.

We spent yesterday on a stretch of the East Coast Trail in Mobile with Shelby from @experiencewildera, filling canvas pouches with berries and flowers and talking about what grows out here and what you can do with it.

The trail opens right onto the coast in front of the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve. Shelby foraged kelp off the rocks while we stood there.

Back at the yurt at @foodcultureplace there was a board of homemade sourdough, sauerkraut, brie, and moose sausage waiting for us. Then we made our own wild fermented sodas from everything we’d gathered that morning. Deep magenta, properly delicious, and two jars came home with us.

Cape Breton, we’re coming for you.

Now tell me honestly. Are there fairies in Newfoundland? 🧚‍♀️

Hosted by @experiencewildera , all opinions my own.

There’s something about September in St. John’s that feels a little different. 🍂

The days are cooler, the trails feel a little quieter, but there’s still plenty happening. It’s the kind of time of year when you can spend the morning outside, wander downtown in the afternoon, and let the evening unfold without feeling like you have to rush through it all.

Maybe it’s the crisp air, the changing colours starting to appear, or that feeling that summer hasn’t quite left yet, but fall is slowly making itself known.

For us, that’s part of the charm. September gives you a little more room to slow down, explore at your own pace, and enjoy the city for what it is.

Featuring @eastcoasttrail @experiencewildera @oceanquestnl and @neighbourhooddanceworks

What would you do first? 🍂

What a weekend. 🌊 Our chapter retreat in Newfoundland was one for the books, and it happened because of some incredible people.
Thank you to our incredible speakers- the people who shared stories, insights, and expertise with us: John Steele of Steele Hotels, Clarah Germaine of Germaine Hotels, best-selling author Coach Todd Durkin, foraging expert Shelby at Wild Era, the Ocean Quest team, the incomparable multi-hyphenate Mr. Alan Doyle (who spoiled us with not one but two songs, amidst a most insightful speech) and Stan Cook from Tourism Newfoundland - thank you for creating a great adventure with us. And to O’Reilly’s in St. John’s for screeching us in the right way. 🐟🥃
We’re leaving with new ideas, new friends, and a very real love for The Rock. ❤️ Here’s to the start of another fantastic forum year with EO Saskatoon!

Wednesday past I traded the office for a couple of hours on a stretch of beach rocks. Grateful to call this coastline home — and even more grateful for local gems like @experiencewildera that remind us why people fall in love with this area in the first place. Whether you’re house hunting or just here for the views, get out and explore. And a boilup with @shelbabeals and crew you won’t regret! Supporting local isn’t just good business — it’s how we keep this place special.

The Most Whimsical Meal of Your Life: Part Two ✨️

Please take my word for it and book one of the @experiencewildera experiences.

Shelby has such a wealth of knowledge about foraging and how to use what's foraged, and puts it on full display in the most whimsical setting. I mean my plate was a shell... come ON! 😍

No detail is left unplanned, while at the same time leaving both time and space for natural conversations and connection among old friends and new acquaintances.

Whether you're planning a staycation as a local, or are coming from away, you'll love every moment of this just like we did. 🌿
