Streaky Bay, what a beautiful way to finish our Save the Waves Film Festival Salty Trail.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to share an evening of storytelling, connection and community. From the grommets keeping us laughing, to the families, surfers, ocean lovers and visitors who filled the hall, it was such a special way to come together.

These screenings are about more than films. They’re about celebrating our coastline, caring for the places we love, and creating conversations that inspire us to protect our oceans and surf ecosystems for future generations.

Thank you to the District Council of Streaky Bay for sponsoring the hall and supporting this community event. A special thank you to Lo and the crew for the fantastic hall setup and for helping create such a welcoming space.

There were plenty of giveaways, raffle prizes and smiling winners throughout the night, and we loved seeing everyone leave with a little extra stoke.

To everyone who attended, volunteered, donated prizes, bought raffle tickets and supported our advocacy—thank you. Your support helps us continue building community, sharing stories and standing together for the protection of our precious coastlines.

From Port Lincoln, to Elliston, to Streaky Bay—thank you for making this year’s Save the Waves Film Festival Salty Trail one to remember.

See you in the water. See you on the land. And together, let’s keep protecting the places we love.

1400 white sharks, 350 surfers. Five attacks in four years, four of them fatal. The town of Elliston sits in the middle of Australia’s most dangerous surfing coast. This is shark country — but how does the Elliston crew keep it surfing country too? Come with us to visit a place and a people where love of surfing is intertwined with inescapable trauma.

Only a day left to check out Zephyr Jones shorebirds exhibition at Streaky Bay information centre. The bays and wetlands on the Eyre Peninsula are prime habitat for migratory and resident shorebirds, and a stunning part of what makes this coastline unique! Unfortunately lots of these shorebirds are under threat from multiple angles. Thank you Zephyr for sharing so much information about these amazing creatures. I am astounded that many migratory birds travel from the far northern hemisphere, right up near the arctic circle, all the way to Streaky Bay! What little legends! The amount of time and research that Zephyr has put into this exhibition is incredible, it seems like a lifetime of work that she has put together but she’s only 15! Huge respect Zephyr, keep inspiring us to look after this magical planet and its inhabitants! ❤️🙌🏻 🦢 #shorebirds #streakybay #eyrepeninsula

Join us for a day of deep honouring, storytelling, and cultural respect as we mark this historic moment — the official dedication of Fishery Bay as a Surfing Reserve.

WORDS FROM ZEPHYR:
I am Zephyr and I’m 14 years old. I live on the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula.
I’ve been passionate about shorebirds for over three years and I love doing what I can to help protect the Hoodies. I think they are so sweet and beautiful and brave and they have such a tough time, we should do all we can to protect them.
Hooded Plovers are special to me because I love watching them and their chicks and I learn so much from them.They are so fascinating.
We have Hooded Plovers breeding on our local beaches and nobody really knows they are there and how vulnerable they are.
I do monitoring in my area and I really enjoy observing their different behaviours and watching them throughout their breeding cycle - from scrape building all the way to seeing the chicks fledge.

When a nest fails it is so sad, but when they are successful it makes me so happy.

When I come across a breeding pair I make hand painted signs which help to make people aware of the Hoodies and what they can do to help protect them.

I love to paint and sketch hoodies and document their journey.
