In continuation of last year’s Sunken Garden, INT./EXT. is a public courtyard video screening exploring the spaces that separate and connect us.

INT./EXT. is a one-night video screening taking place at sunset tonight, Friday, September 11th at 7:30pm in the courtyard of a historic 1922 Andrew Rebori-designed building.

INT./EXT. explores the porous relationship between interior and exterior through moving-image works that consider architecture as both physical condition and psychological state. Projected onto the courtyard wall separating private garden from public street, the screen becomes a threshold for looking, crossing, and inhabiting. Responding to the building’s architecture, the video works investigate windows, façades, landscapes, domestic interiors, and imagined worlds as sites where visibility, intimacy, and exclusion are negotiated. The projection transforms the screen into an architectural aperture for encounter and reflection.

Presented by Brooke Hummer and Alexis de Chaunac

Participating artists: Mauricio Alejo, Kioto Aoki, Kat Bawden, Martin Creed, Shir Ende, Silvia Gruner, Sage Lin 林書慈, Jonas Müller-Ahlheim, Maya Nguyen, Jan Tichy, Fabiola Torres-Alzaga, and Naomi Uman.

Note: a few steps are required to enter the courtyard.

Twelve years ago we went to experience zero gravity, and it felt like inhabit aging a space without center. Losing the sense of getting lost. Floating in the fall and disappear the horizon.

Stop by open hours on Saturday 12-6pm to experience “Day for Night” by Fabiola Torres-Alzaga and get a copy of her Spanish language book set which includes:

“Historias de la Noche” (Stories of the Night) is a dialogue between light and darkness within the universe of cinema, tracing a geography that extends beyond the film itself, the frame, and the screen. It explores cinema’s “negative” space, which film curator Mara Fortes and artist Fabiola Torres-Alzaga translate into lines and text throughout the book, bringing together anecdotes, conversations, reflections, and perspectives that reveal new affinities and forms of complicity.

“El encuadre indiscreto” (The Indiscreet Frame) is the catalogue resulting from Fabiola Torres-Alzaga’s solo exhibition at the Cabañas Museum, presented a year ago and bringing together the artist’s work from the last eight years. The publication features an introductory text by curator Lorena Peña Brito and an intimate letter by artist Naomi Rincón Gallardo, offering multiple points of entry into Torres-Alzaga’s practice and research. Choosing yourself is not egotistical, it is an act of faith.

When you choose yourself from a place of wholeness, not fear, something shifts. You stop chasing what you think you are missing and start noticing everything that is already here, already moving in your favor, the way @fabiola_to ‘s solo installation Day for Night, curated by my friend @lesliemoodycastro, stopped me mid-step and reminded me of exactly that.

The light you’ve been looking for? It was never outside of you. And once you see it within, you see it everywhere. In the stranger who smiles at the right moment. In the door that opens before you even knock. In the quiet knowing that everything, every single thing, is working out for you.

That’s what it means to choose yourself. Not walls up. Heart open.

Just like this adventure to Austin with my friend Santino, life is worth living and savoring every moment by showing up heart open and ready to witness the beauty within and around you. Scroll to see the fun XOXO

The crazy month of May: “Day for Night” by Fabiola Torres or a theater in a culvert; a Hemmer in a Cistern (I’m picking up on a pattern), muraling with the best, I will not shut my pretty little mouth by Carmen; prophetess (I’ll take it) by Trevor, a spring picnic pickle snack celebration for TJ; return home coffee chaos
