A glimpse into Yet The Great Life Continues ✨

Bringing together Fadekemi Ogunsanya and Agnes Waruguru, the exhibition explores textiles, tradition, transformation, and the many ways we become ourselves.

From dyeing and embroidery to stitching and quilting, each piece invites us to pause, reflect, and discover the stories woven into the fabric.

We’re taking you inside the exhibition, but there’s still time to experience it for yourself.

3 DAYS LEFT! Visit Yet The Great Life Continues at ALÁRA, 12A Akin Olugbade Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, before it closes on 18 October.

Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the exhibition before it comes to a close. 💚

We love @fade.0707 Fadekemi’s delicate embroidery and how she draws inspiration from the craftsmanship of women in the Yoruba Adire tradition 🩵💙

We wanted to share the work of Fadekemi, a Nigerian artist based between Lagos and London, trained as an architect, now working across textiles, adire techniques, and painting. Her process is called adire eleko. She paints yam starch onto fabric by hand, using a feather quill, then dips the cloth into indigo dye, often at Kano’s Kofar Mata pits. The starch blocks the dye from taking, so when it’s scraped off afterward, the design appears in reverse, white against deep blue. She finishes each piece with embroidery, beading, and Yoruba script. In 2026, this work made her a LOEWE Craft Prize finalist.

Yet The Great Life Continues is open now! until October 18th. i am sooo happy with this show, and to work again with @fade.0707 and @waru_guru , two artists i love so much and who build their worlds so purposefully and diligently. and getting to watch said worlds collide and coalesce has been kind of life-changing! i love the conversation they’re having in the exhibition, because life can be hard but it can also be beautiful and soft and filled with signs of good things to come! i love their rejection of any kind of hierarchy of material; they work with paper and fabric and will not apologise for it! it’s also really wonderful to see so many different ways of manipulating cloth: dye, paint, stitching, embroidering, beading, quilting. the responsibility and care to carry forward age-old techniques, often practiced by women and to keep these methods alive. i feel like encountering this show forces a slowing down. so many details and moments, you have to hang around to catch them all. please come and see it! 🦜
