The @fairfieldcircuitry Accountant compressor - playing around with the really musical pad function, adding and reducing the boost to my signal.

I’ve added minimal compression (1) and start without the pedal on, the start with pad set to 2, then 1, then 0.

It’s a real complement to this 1970 ES-340 and the Top Boost channel on my AC15.

MODULATION PEDAL: SHALLOW WATER (by @fairfieldcircuitry ) is a vibrato pedal. And a lofi pedal. And a weird texture generator. Another one of those pedals you need if you’re looking for some Boards of Canada in a box.

Let’s go through what’s happening here:

1. RATE – this is your modulation rate – I crank it to max here, but I find that the warbles are most noticeable around 2 o’clock. Max it out and all of the fast wiggles seemingly blur into a slower moving wiggle.

2. DEPTH: Your modulation depth. Maximum all the time. SHALLOW WATER is a pedal that you should be up to your neck in.

3. DAMP: Changes the wave of your modulation from a jagged and random wave a t counter clockwise, all to a nice, subtle sine wave at max clockwise. I like it jagged like a rusty spoon.

4.LPG (LOW PASS GATE): I had not read the manual when I recorded this and did not realise that in addition to cutting high frequencies, LPG also controls how sensitive SHALLOW WATER is to your playing. With LPG fully clockwise, it’s bright, and will modulate almost everything you run through it. Dail it back counterclockwise and you have to play harder and louder to get that modulation to trigger. I

There’s a damn good reason why this is on half of all ambient pedalboards out there – nothing sounds so tastefully lofi without doing a 1:1 replica of some kind of tape. Gonna be hard to pry this one off the board.

SHALLOW WATER makes a great thing to run before @fairfieldcircuitry ‘s PLACEHOLDER reverb – I spent an evening last weekend smashing them into each other. Check it on youtube if you want an hour of fuzzy lofi textures.

This weekend’s Brooklyn @stompboxexhibit was another amazing show! It was packed open to close both days. So many super cool people came through, and we loved getting to demo pedals, talk to them about what they’re digging and what they’re looking for, and listen to the sounds they were dialing in. We met hardcore devotees of our brands and others who were discovering them for the first time, and we are here for all of it.

We loved seeing the different instruments people are using pedals with - lots of guitars and basses as always but also an Omnichord app, so many cool pocket synths, electric violin, percussive instruments, and lots of people using effects on vocals.

Having @29pedals @alexanderpedals @trash_talk_audio @cosmodio.instruments and @stromermutroniks there in person was a blast, and we were excited to rep @bensonamps @browneamplification @fairfieldcircuitry @franklin_audio @greeramps @jampedals @normaldevices @raingerfx @vongonelectronics and @zvexeffects

Thanks to @chourtkneey and @cyberattack_world for joining us on this weekend’s epic pedal adventure and expertly repping our brands with us, to @tonewolfmusic for lending us so many killer guitars and being our retail partner, and Paolo and his amazing team who go above and beyond on this event and so many others.

Trusting the process with the @franklin_audio MP-10 and RA-20.

Here I’m using the MP10 to run an old beat up Panasonic dynamic mic into a mix of the @bsmusicshop x @cusackmusic Meowdulator, the @mtl.asm Count to 5 and the @fairfieldcircuitry Shallow water.

With all engaged I get a static meow drone going, then layer a “kick” and clap running through just the Shallow Water. Vocals are going through the Ct5 and Shallow Water for some warbly harmonies, and nylon string guitar is running through just the Shallow Water for a lo fi touch.

Once everything comes in, I use the RA-20 to reamp the vocal and guitar groups through different settings on the @electronicaudioexperiments Scattering.

So much fun with just a few pedals and a willingness to go where they take you.

Horoscope is an echo sequencer—kind of like if you mashed together a delay/reverb with an arpeggiator, and it’s wild. It takes the cool little pitch jumps you get from changing a subdivision or clock control, and builds a whole world around that.

You can jump intervals manually or automatically sequence them, with octaves and melodic intervals that span simple and pretty, lofi, and straight up weird. (Also tbh there’s a very nice stereo reverb underneath all that if you want.) It’s a quirky one that demands to be explored, and it’s sooo much fun.

This year’s @tokyopedalsummit was an absolute blast! We were thrilled to be a part of such an amazing show, and to get to hang out with old friends and new friends from all over the world.

We were in great company with Chris Benson of @bensonamps, David Rainger of @raingerfx, and Jannis Anastasakis of @jampedals - we’re so glad you all made the trip! And to all our brands who couldn’t come in person, we loved getting to rep your beautiful pedals.

Our booth was staffed by the best of the best - Craig, who runs our Tokyo office, and Hiro, Kakeru, Yuta and Courtney. We are so lucky to have you all in our corner (at the show - literally - and at work and in life)!

Thanks to the Tokyo Pedal Summit committee for organizing another incredible event and to all the pedal-obsessed people who came through. We are forever pinching ourselves that this is our job.
