Had the pleasure of spending my residency with these great people. Getting together to share what we'd created in the residency and just talk about a practise was fantastic. As a teacher I put so much energy outwards and it was so nice to have some nourishment coming inwards for a change.

I'm halfway through my residency at @bundanontrust in the incredible Dorothy Dwyer Silversmiths Studio - what a magical place. I have felt so inspired by this winter landscape, and am really enjoying a lot more form working - let's face it - I've become a bit obsessed with bark and lichen. And everywhere I turn I see droplets of glass on mandrels thanks to the mizzely weather and heavy dews. What a gift it has been to slow down and play with new ideas. 🙏🏻

#InsideThisVault | OBJECT | Liam Flemming
Written by Gina Fairley

At one point, Adelaide-based glassblower Liam Fleming seriously considered becoming a farmer. Fortunately, the glass furnace won.

That instinct to work with his hands led Fleming to train at JamFactory,
the influential craft institution that has shaped generations of Australian makers. He quickly graduated into the high- tempo world of production glassblowing, becoming Production Manager while still in his mid-20s – an unusually early appointment.

“Production teaches you how to make the best object in the shortest amount
of time,” Fleming says. “It’s not about cutting corners – it’s about understanding the material.”

Years of repetition in the hot shop gave Fleming a kind of physical
literacy – a muscle memory that allows experimentation to take precedence over technique. “I always wanted glassblowing to feel second nature,” he explains. “Like a language where I don’t have to think about the grammar anymore.”

Today, that fluency underpins a practice focused on challenging the conventions of the medium. Fleming often describes it as ‘sublimating’ glassblowing – a process driven by curiosity, rather than certainty.

Traditional glassblowing relies on the punty – the rod on which molten glass is rotated to achieve perfect symmetry. Fleming removes this point of balance altogether. Part of that shift begins in the metal workshop. He makes heavy moulds, cutting and welding steel components, that will articulate the molten material. It allows him to “build a vocabulary of forms that sit between craft, sculpture, architecture and design,” he explains.

What a joy to catch up with Holenka @jewelleryactivist to chat about our shared favourite love - jewellery! I have such respect for this project - which is all about sharing creative opportunities for jewellers. It was the perfect 'exclamation mark' on five amazing weeks in Mexico visiting studios and getting to know this scene.

Incredibly grateful for this opportunity supported by @creatensw 🙏🏻

Two of my absolute favorites: markets and murals. This is Mercado Abelardo L. Rodríguez, one of the "hidden in plain sight” gems in Mexico City’s Centro Histórico.

Opened in 1934, it wasn’t just built as a place to buy tomatoes and chiles; it was a “social experiment” designed to be a modern community hub, complete with a daycare, a library, and a theater. But what really makes it legendary is the 1,450 square meters of mural work covering its walls and ceilings.

While Diego Rivera didn’t paint the murals himself, he was the director of the project. The goal was “art for the people”— bringing revolutionary art into the daily lives of the working class.

📍Girón, Centro Histórico - just a short walk from there Museo del Vivo Muralismo.

Everyone talks about Mexico's food... well here is a hint why. A few dishes from this first week in Mexico City - from grilled octopus to chocolate tamales, fresh tortillas to mezcal cocktails - prepare to be surprised!

I feel like I've been talking about this trip forever ... but arriving back in Mexico City was like putting on your favourite comfy shoes - they fit; they're loved, sure they have a few scuffs but you don't want to take them off! 💜

I arrived on a sunny Palm Sunday - the start of Easter Week - and coupled with jacaranda season, it was the perfect welcome.

Day 2 was the start of my Spanish class this week, and a visit to Coyoacan to check out the new Museo Casa Kahlo (opened last September). It's really worth a visit and is presented so well - and a more intimate alternative to Casa Azul.

Today, Day 3, was spent in Roma Norte drinking coffee with a group of four new friends while learning Spanish followed by a bit of market foraging and street food. Needless to say I've walked a lot! I am again surprised by how green 🌳 and how clean 🧹this city is. It is so elegant, friendly and constantly revealing its many faces - you can never know it all.... It just slowly seeps into your blood stream.
