Never been a fan of the cold 🥶 but I do like adventure, and swimming in a beautiful crater lake sounded like fun.

It’s nice to experience new things wherever you go. It makes life more interesting.

Apparently, cold water swimming also has significant health benefits.

Swimming in cold water...
✅ Boosts your immune system
✅ Activates endorphins, which makes you feel good
✅ Burns calories
✅ Reduces stress
✅ Increases your libido, boosting testosterone and estrogen

So why don’t more people do it? I guess it’s just too cold 🤣

🔹 Do you prefer hot or cold temperatures? Would you swim in a cold lake?

My sister’s been one of my closest friends since we were young.

Farrah’s also one of the greatest people I know in general. Volunteered hundreds of hours each year while working side jobs and double majoring at UC Davis.

Doctor👩‍⚕️and champion weightlifter 🏋️ in multiple states. Lives on a tiny budget ($50/month for food?!) and spends most of her time helping other people. Runs her own @fairyburger website.

It’s great to always be able to count on family. While we were on different coasts or even different countries, it was always easy to talk about anything with my sister (except one of my favorite topics, finance 😁)

For nearly a decade, we were thousands of miles apart while I worked in Beijing and traveled around the world, and Farrah was busy with medical school on the East Coast.

Now that she’s back in the SF Bay Area, we finally have the chance to hang out in person.

I figured our travel and adventure habits would go well together since we both like doing things on a budget and making the most of our experiences.

It also helps that we share many of the same interests and activities - travel, hiking ⛰ , backpacking, working out, kickboxing 🥊 , jiujitsu, and movies.

Since the start of the pandemic, Farrah and Michelle have been my only adventure companions.

Unfortunate not being able to hang out with friends, but it’s great to have this opportunity to spend time with my sister!

(I’d use a different pic but she’s not a fan of facing the camera)

🔹Who are your main adventure partners? Are you close with your siblings?

Sunrise view of our socially distant camping set-up in the Sierras ⛰

I love the feeling of backpacking - you get that sense of freedom while soaking in beautiful scenery around you.

It makes you more resourceful, self-reliant, and present. You’re focused on solving immediate issues, such as identifying a good campsite for shelter in 30 F (0 C) weather.

It also allows you to indulge in the fantasy that you can really live on your own skills in nature 😆

I found some nice, flat ground covered in soft pine needles for the campsite. It was partially sheltered from the wind by large boulders, and we prepared the tent there by flattening out the ground and removing all the rocks and pinecones that could dig into your back at night.

Since there are bears in the area, we put all our food and scented items in a bear canister 100 ft. away. 🐻

Just like in business, the effort you put in during the day helps you sleep easier at night 😉

There wasn’t a real need to be so distant, since we didn’t see a single other person camping in the area... but my sister needed her two trees for her hammock, and I needed my soft, flat ground for my tent. 🏕

The whole adventure only cost gas money of ~$35.

🔹Any backpacking tricks and tips? What do you like to do for fun on a budget?
