TOMORROW • I Hate This, But I’m Having Fun

My new album comes out tomorrow. Here are the tracks. All 8 of them. A couple big co-writes, a few you’ve already heard, and one that I re-recorded because I always felt like it should have been me alone at the piano.

Here are the folks who helped bring this project to life:

Mat Elliott - bass, guitar, slugs
Connor Booth - drums
Kate Hennessey - vocals
Rachel Bruch - strings
Leanne Hoffman - Tree Song
John Mullane - mix for tracks 1,3,4,6
Callum Gaudet - mix for tracks 2,5,8
Kurtis McAllister - mix for Tree Song
John McLaggan - mastering engineer
Joey Chapman - photography
Erin MacKenzie - graphic design

Recorded at Fang Recording (and my attic)
Special thanks to Music Nova Scotia

I’m really excited for you to hear this. I hope you have fun.

Here is a newish project here based on a hunch that @lalaliam was not only a great singer but would also be fun to work with on a some tunes. Last fall and in the spring I made a few trips to PEI to hash out ideas and over beers both real and fake and we proposed a general idea of doing things quietly and live-off-the floor. Kicked around a few names of obscure and undervalued things as inspiration.
Then asked a bunch of low-maintenance musicians (ie awesome and fun to play with) to listen to the demos. One day in May we got together and got four songs in the can, more to come I hope. I think it turned out pretty good and it was fun to do.
Self-promotion feels inherently weird, but I guess if one is motivated enough to do it you should try to get it out there without being too obnoxious about it.
Might call the project Carragreen as it's kind of a cool word and is another name for seaweed.
Working title for this one was "Drake Merengue", after Nick Drake for obvious to me DADGAD tuning reasons (no relation to the rapper). Oh yeah and the video is something to look at as you listen because that's how it goes these days.
Thanks to the players who were willing to donate their time and skills for pizza, hoping to play live fall/winter.
Thanks to franc for always keeping it cool and graeme for his big old brain.
Liam Corcoran - vox and words
Matt McQuaid - bass
Moi - acoustic guitar
K. Jordan Murphy - drums
Andrew Glencross - mellotron
Dave Casey - steel
Jeff Gay - electric verb guitar (literally still had his coat on, came in later, learning the tune as it went down)
Recorded live off floor (take one) by Francisco Lopes at Fang Recording.
Mixed by Graeme Campbell
Video by Andrew
Thank you for your kind indulgence.
