💫 **TODAY IS THE DAY!** 💫 💙 After months of planning, collaboration, and a whole lot of heart, the FAN SJSU Career Summit 2026 is finally here! 💛 Our team has poured so much time and energy into creating an experience centered on career exploration, professional development, connection, representation, and community... AND I’m so excited to finally see it all come to fruition. Am I nervous? As one of the organizers and a moderator today… oh yes! 😅 The butterflies are definitely there. 🦋 But I think that’s also a reminder that I’m stepping into something that truly matters to me. One of the things I’m most excited about is having my sons there with me. My middle schooler is involved in ASB and already growing as a young leader, and my high school junior is a student-athlete beginning to think about what comes after high school. Would they rather spend their Saturday relaxing at home? Probably. 😁 But I want them in the room. I want them to hear people’s stories, meet professionals, explore different career paths, and see firsthand that there isn’t just one road to success. And yes, maybe a small part of me selfishly wants them to see their mom in her element moderating a panel, connecting people, and doing work that I’m passionate about. ❤️ I spend a lot of time encouraging my boys to step outside their comfort zones, use their voices, and pursue opportunities even when they’re nervous. Today, they get to watch me do the same. That’s what this summit represents to me: exposure creates possibility. Sometimes one conversation, one connection, or simply seeing someone you can relate to doing something you never imagined for yourself can change the direction of your journey. To everyone joining us today, I’m so excited to see you! Come ready to learn, connect, network, and build community with us. Let’s make today amazing! 💙💛 #FANSJSU #CareerSummit #CareerReadiness #ProfessionalDevelopment #Mentorship #Community #Leadership #RepresentationMatters

At Community Paint Day organized by San José State University’s Filipino Alumni Network (@fansjsu), we celebrated the Filipino American History Mural! 🇵🇭🎨 It was wonderful to gather with the SJSU community and uplift the generations of Filipino Americans and the farmworker movement who have helped shape San José and our region. Led by the Filipino American History Mural Committee and brought to life by SJSU alumna and artist Francesca “ChiChai” Mateo, this mural shows the power of community coming together to reclaim and preserve our stories. Our history belongs in our public spaces where the next generation can see themselves reflected in it. Maraming salamat to the Mural Committee, President @sjsuprezmatson), and everyone who organized, advocated, and picked up a paintbrush to bring this historic mural to life! Keep an eye out! 🎨 The mural will be completed this October in celebration of Filipino American History Month.

A mural begins with more than paint. It begins with community. 💙💛 Today, members of the SJSU Filipino Alumni Network (@fansjsu), local community members, city leaders, President Cynthia Teniente-Matson (@sjsuprezmatson) and fellow Spartans came together for the first paint shift of the Filipino American History Mural. Guided by mural artist and SJSU alumna Francesca “ChiChai” Mateo (@chichai.intheair , each brushstroke helps bring forward the stories, heritage and lasting contributions of Filipino Americans in our community. We are honored to help create a space that reflects the voices and history of the people who continue to shape San José State and our city. Thank you ChiChai, Supervisor Betty Duong (@supbettyduong), the Filipino Alumni Network, and all of our mural painters for making history on campus today.
