POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

In collaboration with the Chatham-Kent Community Drug Strategy (@ckohtmedia) and @ckpublichealth, a new resource has been developed to support families, caregivers and loved ones of people who use substances.

The resource is a support services guide, connecting families and loved ones with programs and services, and includes crisis lines for those who may need immediate help or someone to talk to.

Please feel free to screenshot, save and share this resource. It is also available to download along with a quick reference postcard with crisis support lines at the Resources link in our bio.

Addiction is a disease, people suffering from addiction require our understanding and support to even consider steps to recovery. Please reconsider the stigmas surrounding addiction as it will undoubtedly save lives. Peace & love, Cassi.

Al-Anon might not be for you -
and that’s okay.

It’s the most recommended support option for families
and for many people, it genuinely helps.

For some, it’s exactly what they need.
But if you’ve tried it and it didn’t click
or you’ve hesitated to even go
that doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong.

There are other paths: SMART Recovery Family & Friends, Invitation to Change, other 1:1 peer-based spaces, or working with a therapist alongside books and resources that resonate with you.

Support isn’t one-size-fits-all.
You’re allowed to keep looking until something fits.

I’ve tagged a few resources in the reel if you want to explore. 🩶

Reach out for help. Reach out sooner than you think you need it. ❤️

Support is available. You do not need to nor are you expected to do it alone.

Families often wait to long to reach out for help.

Thank you for joining us on the Familywood Podcast @farcanada!

🎙️ Listen now via the link in bio.

Most families affected by addiction suffer in silence, and not because they want to.

Because they may feel ashamed that someone they love is struggling. Ashamed of what others may think. Ashamed because somewhere along the way, many families begin asking themselves:

“What did I do wrong?”

In our latest Familywood Podcast episode, I sat down with Angie Hamilton, Executive Director of @farcanada (Families for Addiction Recovery - FAR), to talk about the stigma families carry when addiction impacts someone they love.

We talked about:

How parents and spouses quietly blame themselves

Why addiction impacts entire family systems

The difference between control and influence

Why families are not powerless

And why families need support too

If someone you love is struggling with addiction, this conversation is for you.

You do not need to carry this alone.

Substance use and addiction affect the whole family.
But when all the focus is on the person struggling,
the people supporting them can get overlooked.

If you’re supporting a loved one struggling with substance use,
you deserve support too.
Not just advice on how to help them —
but support for what you’re carrying.

Because this impacts you.

And just like there isn’t one path for your loved one,
there isn’t one right way for you to get support either.

Support might look like:
• Invitation to Change
• SMART Recovery Family & Friends
• Al‑Anon or other group support
• FAR Canada or Cason resources
• peer support (formal or just someone you trust)
• therapy with someone who understands addiction behaviour

You don’t have to do this alone.
And there isn’t a one‑size‑fits‑all approach.
You get to choose what aligns with your values,
your capacity, and your needs.
