Banquet of Rot (1), from the series #Fome_de_quê?, 2021 by #AnaLuizaRodrigues. It evokes the social issue of hunger, economic and social inequality and lack of opportunity beyond culture. What defines us thus, links us to places, territories, communities, affections, to cultural identity through food that refers to caring and memory?

Our very best wishes for an inspiring break to all people who exchange ideas and arts here in this square.

We are coming out of a very foggy period, slowly starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It has been a bumpy year, including the sadness of losing wonderful friends.

My truly heartfelt thanks to all the artists we have had meaningful exchanges with, in particular to the ones whom ganged up with us throughout pandemics @farfewofus

Let's keep in touch and have a 2023 with more dialogue, meaningful encounters and fruitful projects, cheers everyone 🥂

This photo is a postcard that #BrígidaBaltar gave to me in 1998. The photo in the card, was taken by #MarciaThompson during Brígida's performance A Coleta de Neblina / The fog collection, 1996 in Estrada Rio Petrópolis. I have kept it close to my heart since then and I am thinking of her who has departed us this year.

Thanks @terra_arte! #trace_thread_text is online now!

'Bloquinhos' are Thompson small #notepads, with leaves that are subtly touched by the artist, by means of cutting, drawing, erasing lines, twisting the spirals... all in a playful way as if exploring with the #geometry of chance.

Interviening with the regularity of the individual holes punched on top of the pages she rearranges the way in which the pages hang on the spiral or on the walls, interfering with the way we see the lines, breaking the pattern of the grid, creating a new disposition for the page in space, and in our lives.

When thus this thread or lines turns the same into an unknown other? What if the horizon line is no longer where we are used to seeing it?

She plays with music sheets, space is silence but the music in our minds. Her work is like a whisper - you got to listen to it very closely.

In a world absolutely saturated by images her little pieces of paper nailed to the wall offer us a chance to be, they are little philosophical remarks reminding us of our own status as sublime creatures capable of creating beauty, and that art is precious even if made of little nothings. They remind me of the work of Mira Schendel.

Although working with great subtlety, like just leaving traces behind when she fills out or erases spaces between the printed lines of the stationery, one can see the thread of her thoughts, the plots to circumvent normality.

Twisting our established art historical grammar, so thus that what is abstract is not so devoid of connotations, what was geometry is no longer so Euclidian, what was minimalism is imbued with sensuality, and off she goes creating a text of her own mind.

I am interested in body confrontation, explains Marcia. If it is not so clear in the bloquinhos, she makes it explicitly on her videos, as vanishing point (stories). A thread of lines following through the roots of people's parted hairs points us to a bodily, sensory, and sensual reality.

Marcia is based in London, is represented by galleries Mercedes Viegas in Brazil. Her work has been featured in some of our exhibitions in Rio, London and Aylesbury.
