This week in queer art:

📸Cover image from a still taken from “Para Gregorio” (2017) by Cristóbal Guerra

August 20th: The 2026 Doll Invasion Auction exhibition “THE MOST GORGEOUS, SPECIAL THINGS ON EARTH” opens TONIGHT from 6pm - 9pm at PARTICIPANT INC and SALMA SARRIEDINE, located at 116 Elizabeth Street.

The evening will include performances from two iconique divas who make an art of life — Qween Jean and Young Joon Kwak.

This time capsule of art, iconic memorabilia, historic objects and one-of-a-kind experiences is contributed by queer, trans and feminist legends including Angela Davis, Sasha Colby, Molly Crabapple, Young Joon Kwak, Amanda Lepore x Lia Clay, Chelsea Manning, Chani Nicholas, MUNA, Narcissister, Chappell Roan, Geena Rocero x Maly Siri, Lena Waithe, and so many more.

August 22: 2019 QAM Fellow Cristóbal Guerra (@farifos) is screening their short film as part of the Cafe International Shorts block at SF Queer Film Festival at the Roxie Theater.

In this modern, queer retelling of an antillean legend, a message from the heart of the islands awakens the memory of ancestral revenge within a couple. One day, amid passion, desire, and rage, the wound of the landscape compels them to repeat the act.

August 23: QA Performance Field Coordinator Nile Harris, 2020 QAM Fellow Maia Chao, 2019 QAM Fellow Daniel Chew (of CFGNY), and 2025 QAM Mentor Young Joon Kwak are all included in the 2026 Whitney Biennial, which closes this week.

The eighty-second edition of the Whitney Biennial—the longest-running survey of contemporary art in the United States—features work of 56 artists, duos, and collectives that reflects the current moment and examines various forms of relationality, including interspecies kinships, familial relations, geopolitical entanglements, technological affinities, shared mythologies, and infrastructural supports.

August 23: 2015 QAM Mentor Dynasty Handbag (@jibzcamerom) will be bringing her book show “HELL IN A HANDBAG” to Hudson, NY on Sunday at Time and Space Limited.

Entitled Hell in a Handbag, the book traces Cameron’s unique perspective shaped by a childhood spent with hippie clowns in Northern California, to making morbid zines

Jamaican Summer Table at Eliza! 🌿✨

This dinner was a deeply special moment for me; bringing dishes I’ve been dreaming, developing, and building on for some time to life here in Kingston. Through food, I get to remember, preserve, and honor the worlds that have shaped me while continuing to explore them through my own creative expression.

I’m so grateful to everyone who came out, shared a table, supported, celebrated, and helped make the night what it was! Thank youuu to the collective spirit that filled the room with so much love, to the drummers, @sperosounds who filled the space with rhythm and spirit , and to every person who brought their presence and energy into the evening ✨

A huge thank youuu to everyone @eliza.bistro for trusting me with your amazing space and to Chef @needsmorebutter Chef @wrap_skallion and TEAM helping bring this vision to life, and to @farifos for capturing these moments so beautifully.

A week later, I’m still reflecting on all that was created, the stories shared, the connections formed, and the reminder of why I continue to create through food🥹✌🏾🇯🇲🌊

Here’s to more thoughtFUL meals, stories, and moments shared wherever we gather xx

Cristóbal Guerra (@farifos ) joins us this Thursday for our Poets in Translation reading at El Jardin de Santa Celcila. Cristóbal is a Boricua filmmaker, writer, and language justice worker working across experimental cinema and movement-based language access. His practice uses critical fabulation to approach queer mythologies and archives as unstable, untranslated terrains.

The garden includes a path that connects different areas of the site and offers an alternative to the stairs for wheelchair users and other mobility devices. A portable restroom will be available on site.

This exquisites reading is sponsored, in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council. This event is also funded in part by Poets & Writers with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

Enby bby pao says their surge raffle is live!

My community has generously offered their incredible talent for my fundraiser. From hand made glass and ceramics pieces, so much plant medicine, stunning photography, a pop up & steak meal, and an Akashic reading, we have something for everyone! These are all very special, unique and personal offerings that I’m so proud to share.
Instructions on how to enter are in the slides.

The rest of the photos on this post are of authentic love, collaboration, and growth. I’m very moved by all the support. I’m feeling so emo that my dusty T eyes almost shed a tear. 🥲

Frendz and fam like this, make this hard life worth living. Feeling held, protected, excitement and readiness for what’s to come

Thank you for sharing and donating. ❤️‍🩹
