It has been an incredible fall season. Yesterday, I started drawing up winter wonderland windows. Before I say goodbye to Fall Window season, I just want to take a moment to show some gratitude for all of the incredible opportunities I was given. It was so much fun, and I’ve continued to learn and improve my craft even more.

What are we really hungry for?
At Living Kitchen, the answer has never been just what’s on the plate.

For two decades, co-owners Lisa Becklund and Linda Ford have built dinner experiences around the Oklahoma harvest on Living Kitchen’s screened-in back porch, giving equal weight to craft, connection and community. Their influence now extends beyond the farm to restaurants like FarmBar, Il Seme and the all-too-briefly-open Cow & Cabbage, helping shape a more ambitious food culture in Tulsa along the way.

But as Tulsa’s culinary scene evolves, and restaurants come and go, a larger question emerges: What does it take not only to create remarkable restaurants, but to sustain them?

Megan Shepherd explores that question through the people, philosophy and legacy of Living Kitchen—and what its story might tell us about the future of dining in Oklahoma.

Okay, NOW it’s fall 🥰 the storefront foliage at Farmbar in Tulsa has officially transitioned from Summer to Fall and I couldn’t be more excited about it.

In case you were wondering what that big peppery looking thing is climbing along the sides; it’s a Carolina Candy Roaster Squash! I didn’t know what it was before this project, but they look pretty neat and I hear they’re delicious!

Firefly Farm figs can be found at @farmbartulsa on their incredible tasting menu! Brown butter sear on the figs with North Texas antelope, Concord grape reduction, crème blue cheese from Ava, Missouri, and tarragon. Looks amazing!

Date night at FARMBAR 🤍✨

Nine courses. One incredible experience. And every single plate was a little piece of art.

We started with some seriously unexpected bites apple pave with white cheddar & celery, a chicken liver waffle cone with mulberry & anise syrup, lunchbox chile rellenos with caciocavera cheese, grilled halloumi with peach mustard, and a smoked baby back rib with plum glaze.

Then came the vegetables and salads… wheat berries with miso, sesame & peach, long bean forestière with bacon & crispy shallots, watermelon salad with feta & elderflower-pickled jalapeños, and vadouvan ratatouille with peanut chhonk & garlic butter roti. 🍉🌶️

We had Okie fried quail with green tomato glaze & pickle banchan, followed by a cantaloupe gazpacho sorbet with goat cheese snow which was every bit as beautiful and interesting as it sounds.

And then the “prasotigania” pork chop with braised leeks & scallions… absolutely incredible.

But dessert?! 🤤
Tomato spice cake with white chocolate basil ice cream, spiced tomato syrup & brown butter pecan crumble, chocolate fig leaf shortbread with lime buttercream and candied watermelon rind, and a lavender pot de crème with cantaloupe coulis, citrus & saffron canelé.

Every course was completely different. Every flavor was intentional. And watching the chefs work together the timing, creativity, teamwork and attention to every little detail made the entire night feel like we were watching art being created right in front of us.

This wasn’t just dinner. It was an experience.
And one we won’t forget. 🤍
