Introducing the SLEEPERTOWN | Dún Laoghaire Projects #5.
Oderbruch Lifelines I by Janine Eisenächer @janine_eisenaecher

LOCATION:
Kill-o'-the-Grange stream in Kilbogget Park

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Originally created for the Oderbruch region of eastern Germany, Janine Eisenächer’s audio walk is inspired by the landscape’s deep connection to water. Shaped by centuries of flooding, drainage and human intervention, the Oderbruch became the basis for a work that gives presence to waterways that are essential to life yet often remain unseen or overlooked.

For its presentation in Kilbogget Park, the work is re-situated in relation to the Kill o’ the Grange River and the network of flows, channels, wetlands and drainage systems that have contributed to the formation of this landscape over time. Like the Oderbruch, this environment reflects an ongoing negotiation between water and land, visibility and concealment, ecology and human habitation.

Oderbruch Lifelines I invites listeners to attune themselves to these living water systems and to consider their presence beneath and alongside the visible landscape. It focuses on the subtle activity of water as a life-giving force; one that connects habitats, histories and communities, and whose significance often becomes most apparent during moments of environmental change.

The audio walk is a composition created from field recordings originally gathered in the Oderbruch, carrying the sonic traces of that landscape into a new dialogue with the waterways of Kilbogget Park.

Introducing the SLEEPERTOWN | Dún Laoghaire Projects #4.
Everyone is called Mohamed by Younes Baba Ali @younes.babaali

LOCATION:
Convent Lane and Bloomfield Square, Dún Laoghaire

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
“Everyone is called Mohamed” is a subtle sound installation installed in public space. Repetitively calling out Mohamed - a name whose popularity is unequalled globally and is used in Arab culture to address any anonymous man - the work engages a large audience. By its very nature, the work is an invitation to interact and react - simply by being provoked by it, as our body physically and instinctively reacts to the call.

Found these beautiful post-cards Lynnette @weareliveart made with a still from the Lake Burst film for Live Collision Festival @livecollision in 2024 on my bookshelf this morning.

I performed the film-score for the first time at Live Collision in 2025, and have been doing it ever since.

I love offering this performance because it is so compact and clear cut (unlike many of my other performances that are improvised and meandering).

15 minutes of focused intensity. And a FULL journey happens in that timespan. In fact, I’d go as far as saying that we step out of time for a moment.

Really looking forward to performing the film-score again tonight at @rha.arts at 7pm with @beewjay

Hoping to see some of you there.
Booking link is in my bio!

Delighted this piece was published in @rte_culture today.

I tried to write about my work, but Paula Meehan summed it up perfectly when she wrote;

“I offer this response, then, as a libation to the fluidity and waters of Maïa Nunes’s imagination! For she enchants by means of watersongs, waterspells, and warnings, a sweep of sound to be graven in vinyl. Her powerful, uncompromising album channels the very voice of water singular, and of waters in chorus, sacred and profane. Water in the service of healing the heart, soul, mind. Thus the wounded artist works for us all, by mending herself.”

More about the honour of Paula Meehan writing about my work later. For now please enjoy the article on @rte_culture

Look what just arrived! Some fabulous weekend polar listening from @powercomposer and @farpointrecordings

Inspiring me to take Karen’s polar soundings commissioned by @soundfestival out on the road, too!

Next Friday October 9th at 7pm I will be performing the Lake Burst original film score with @beewjay alongside a screening.

Brendan will be playing clarinet and I will be singing. We’ll essentially be providing live music for the screening, sort of like how orchestras used to play film scores live in cinemas. ✨

This will be followed by a conversation between myself and @alicerekab

Alice’s practice, like my own, explores their mixed-race identity and ancestral heritage. I have led voice workshops and show my film as part of Alice’s recent exhibition tour and I’m excited to bring our work into dialogue again in a new way. I am a fan of Alice’s artwork, I think it’s personal and beautiful. We have different stories, and different ways of working but there is resonance between us and that should make for a rich and generative conversation.

If you’d like to attend this event you must book a ticket via the eventbrite linked on rha.ie. I have put the link in my bio.

There is a small fee of €10 associated with this event, mostly because we have a small capacity and this can prevent people from reserving and then not showing up.

I would love to see you next week at @rha.arts

One month since the release of Karen Power's 'listening between poles' 💿️

'listening between poles' contains a selection of compositions based on Karen Power's sonic pole-to-pole; featuring field recordings from the composer's journey between the North and South Pole. The works were created over a ten year period between 2013 - 2023. Artists featured include the @rteconcertorchestra, Isabelle O'Connell (@izzypianonyc)and Barbara Lüneberg (violin).

📸 Photos from the album launch in early September at the Contemporary Music Centre. RTÉ lyric fm's Ellen Cranitch formally launched the release, followed by a live improvised set by Karen Power, John Godfrey, Anthony Kelly and David Stalling. CMC was also delighted to welcome James Bingham, Head of Music and Opera at the Arts Council Ireland.

Beauties,

I have 3 performances coming up and I’d love for you to attend. Two at @rha.arts and the third at @nationalgalleryofireland

9th October 7-8pm @rha.arts
I will be performing the Lake Burst original soundtrack live with @beewjay on clarinet. We’ll be live scoring a screening, sort of like how orchestras used to play movie soundtracks live. This will be followed by a conversation between myself and @alicerekab

23rd October 7-8pm @rha.arts
I will be performing my new album live with a full band inside of my installation @rha.arts
This is a dream come true for me. Spaces are VERY limited and seems like my whole family is coming so get your ticket now before they’re gone.

29th October 7-8pm @nationalgalleryofireland
I will be performing my Lake Burst album live with a full band at The National Gallery in the glorious and regal Shaw Room. This is going to be epic, such an honour to be asked, an amazing setting, a bigger audience but still spaces are limited. This one is free to attend but you still need to book.

There is a small fee of €10 associated with the RHA performances. This is mostly to prevent people booking and then not showing up.
All the event links are in my bio.

Excited to be performing live again.💧

Tomorrow evening, Wednesday 30th Sept from 5.30-6.30 @rha.arts we’ll be listening to a selection of tracks from my new Vinyl album.

There has been a change to this event in that I’ll now be chatting with @beewjay about the music as opposed to Anthony of @farpointrecordings who has still generously agreed to lend us his record player for the evening.

No booking required, free to attend.
See you there 🤞🏽

P.s. my album Lake Burst can be listened to on any streaming site and the vinyl can be purchased from Band camp 🔗 or at the RHA front desk.

Come to my listening party 💿

This Wednesday 30th September from 5.30-6.30 @rha.arts

We will listen to some tracks from my new vinyl record Lake Burst, and punctuate listening with a chat between myself and Brendan Jenkinson @beewjay who produced the album.

I want this to be a cosy event so consider bringing something comfy to sit or lie down on.

This event is free to attend and there is no booking required.

You can purchase my vinyl via the Bandcamp link in my bio or at the front desk at RHA Gallery. Forever thanks to @farpointrecordings for publishing this beauty.
