@davidbhutchens, The Storytelling Leader (literally, his company name) inspired a quote out of me. His purpose-driven storytelling supports folks who need to be seen, whether they are in shelters or office cubicles. Check out profile. Savvy business communicators greet with HI (Human Intelligence) rather than AI. We understand the importance of human connection in messaging. Storytelling is an effective method to get to the HI. And, this is especially important during times of change. I’m pleased to talk about the benefits of storytelling at the upcoming @iabclosangeles IABC Los Angeles Comms LAb. Thanks to the IABCLA Board for making this event possible. #businesscommunications #storytelling #HI AI

Why is everybody talking about storytelling? ☕️ Navigating change requires collaboration. ☕️ Collaboration requires knowing teammates beyond name, rank, and serial number. ☕️ We can know one another without over sharing or diary purging. 💡I’m delighted to talk about personal storytelling strategies at the June 10 IABCLA Comms LAb. (Details below. ) Special thanks to Angela Bagley of the IABCLA board of directors. #storytelling #morealike #orgchange #iabclosangeles

What’s in my cup, you ask? I gave a hearty “HI ”to a colleague’s post about AI and its impact on storytelling, HI stands for “Human Intelligence.” (Also, it’s a greeting and U.S. postal reference.)   HI is a way of interacting that cannot be replicated or manufactured. ChatGPT may correct grammar, but it cannot generate compassion. When facing a people challenge, slow your roll for AI’s assistance.   There’s nothing artificial about my intelligence to: ☕ re-frame the uncertainty of an organizational change ☕ show grace when a leader acts poorly ☕ address conflict among employees In all cases, I must ask, “What’s the story here?” Our most compelling stories are full of humanity. Feelings. Care. Hope. Humanity bridges differences and gets the job done. So far, in 2026, my HI greetings showed up in: ✍ “Rediscover Your Worthiness Conversation” (Alma Apodaca) – keynote coaching 🎙️ “Tell the Good News, Tell Your Story” UCC Pasadena layperson’s sermon 💡 “Expect Great Things” (Luciana Starks, Ed.D.) – keynote coaching 🏛️ “Storytelling to Build Community … especially During Change” Healthcare Project + Change Association UK (HPCA)   🎤 International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Minnesota Convergence Summit (attendee)   ⛪ “Storytelling to Build Community in Faith-based Boards and Committees” UCC Southern California Nevada Conference (workshop leader) Full disclosure: the graphic of people talking is AI-generated. But, the people I talk to are human-generated. HI! Got any human intelligence stories? Stories when personal connection came without AI? #storytelling #humanity #HI #human #intelligence morealike storytelling whatsinyourcup Gratitude to @davidbhutchens, @the_next_best_action, Dr. Luciana Starks @dr_brin @mindaharts

Stories are found wherever people are gathered. Storytelling in faith-based settings is a special mission to connect people who are facing change. I had the esteemed honor to present a layperson’s sermon to First Congregational Church of Pasadena. My topic: “It’s the week after Easter, now what? Tell the Good News by telling your story.” David Hutchens’ Story Canvas was part of my show-and-tell. (Thank you, Sir David for your wisdom and resources to do this storytelling work.)💐 #storytelling #whatsinyourcup #humanconnection

Introverts, gather around. (Leave some space between yourselves … I know you need it.) What’s in your emotional ☕️ these days? What’s your story in these turbulent times? I’ve been thinking about how introverts like me process conflict. It’s an assault on our nervous system. Current events are particularly troubling to our rich inner lives. Some may observe our demeaner as aloof, unbothered, or in denial. News flash: it’s quite the opposite. I was inspired by an essay from journalist Maria Schriver who says, ➡️“Many feel as though the ground beneath them has shifted—and they don’t know what to hold onto anymore.” ➡️”Many of us don’t just feel politically broken. We feel spiritually and emotionally broken too. And at times, it feels like so much that it’s hard not to wonder if it’s just us. It’s not.” ➡️ “Let me say this loud and clear: You’re not crazy or weak for feeling this way, and you’re not alone. You are human.” —Maria Shriver As a storytelling practitioner, these are times when I declare, share your story. Find the right place and the right people to share our humanity through our experiences. It is not just to lament, but to find hope.☕️ Reach me in my profile. #Storytelling #Hope #Humanity #Introverts #WhatsInYourCup

Martin Luther King, Jr. and the power of stories. Among the many merits of personal storytelling is the ability to disagree without doing harm.   We find we are more alike than unalike when we tell our personal stories. Tell of times when you were afraid, surprised, sad, happy, uncertain, or other emotions. It’s in those conversations, we find ourselves leaning forward and thinking, “I have felt the same way.” In the proper setting, we avoid oversharing. There’s no willy nilly purging of diaries. Instead, we get at the core of humanity that we have in common. I can imagine how Dr. King’s dream of peace would live in reality if we would tell our stories. Tell those stories in the boardroom, at the dinner table, in places of worship, at the grocery store, or any place where people assemble. #MLKDay #socialjustice #peace #morealike #storytelling justice4all Gratitude to @davidbhutchens

When loss meets gratitude there is hope. Alma Apodaca and her husband Greg tell the story of the unlikely connection between loss and gratitude. Los Angeles TV news affiliate NBC4 reports their story at the one-year anniversary of the Eaton Canyon fire that destroyed the Apodaca family home. Although it’s a somber remembrance by thousands of Southern Californians, from Pasadena to Pacific Palisades, on this January 7, Alma and Greg shine a light of gratitude. They are grateful for the many neighbors and communities that came together in support of one another. I had the honor of a storytelling conversation with Alma in late 2025 when she described her resilience to press on and the sense of hope that came from it. View her story in the What’s in Your Cup?
