Topic: Adornment in the form of Tattoos • • For many adornment is often understood as items like jewelry, hair accessories, eyewear, hats, belts etc. These articles of clothing can completely transform the look of a fit and in my opinion they often make a look feel complete. I feel the same way about tattoos. I know they are not for everyone and by no means am I pushing for follks to get tattooed. That’s a personal (permanent) choice. But for me, its one of my personal favorite forms of adornment. As you can tell from many of the pics on this IG I’m heavily tattooed; each tattoo a symbol of deep meaning to me and my personal story. Each session a ritual, a ceremony and a part of my own rites of passage. Fortunately, I have been able to have the majority of my tattoos done by friends and people I know and adore. The majority of my tattoos (like the one I just began this Sunday) are done by my dear friend Jozie @feistyink whose art has deeply spoken to my heart for many many years now. Fashion and how we express ourselves through clothing and adornment is art AND so are tattoos. I love art in all its forms and I’m grateful that for the most part the negative perceptions associated with tattoos has shifted BUT for some tattoos are still seen as taboo and those that have them as somehow “bad”. The same can happen with fashion. People can and do judge people for what they wear and how they dress often based on, quite frankly, dumbass social norms that are imposed on us instead of what we want to express for ourselves. I know that there are people in my life that are disturbed by my tattoos and wish I didnt have them BUT those people are NOT me and this body of mine isnt theirs. Do what you want with your body and I will do what I want with mine. Some may think I’ve ruined how I look with my tattoos while I feel like I’ve enhanced how I look and adorned my body in a way that makes me feel more me, more beautiful and complete. I plan to be covered in tattoos before I take my last breathe in this life and that brings me joy. Do with your body what brings YOU joy and fuck all the haters and naysayers because this is YOUR life so LIVE it! 🐆 Say hello t

Happy 13th birthday to Happy 🥹 To the most special dog, we’ve been through the last 13 years together, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. You’ve met everyone in my life. You’ve been everywhere where I’ve been including rooftops while painting, the beach, every park from Key West to West Palm Beach and you’ve loved on every neighbor we had when we lived in an apartment. Our neighbors would open their doors and let Happy run around with their dogs in their living room. I don’t know how many more birthdays I have with you, but I’m cherishing all the moments with you even the most mundane things. September 30 is hopefully his last surgery ✨

This past May I had the incredible honor of doing the @vermontstudiocenter residency. To say it was transformative would be an understatement. This was my first residency ever and it was a dream come true. It was only a week long and I went into it excited but thinking I wouldn’t accomplish much in that short time span. The opposit was true: having that time and space to focus solely on my work was expansive and groundbreaking— I accomplished more in that week than I do in 6 months at home juggling all the things of other work demands etc etc. I had no plan going in, just some blank canvases. I started and almost completed the painting you see in the reel, I was so fully inspired and immersed in this beautiful studio space. A huge shout out to my amazing studio neighbor @toddkosharekart who brought me all of these beautiful books from the library as inspiration you see sprinkled throughout the reel. @vermontstudiocenter creates such a truly special space, you feel like you’re entering a vortex there. The people that run VSC are exceptional, and they curated such an amazing cohort of residents. There were 40 of us there, a mix of visual artists and writers. So many beautiful and talented people that I was constantly inspired by. Thank you to everyone that I was lucky enough to cross paths with during that week, you each impacted me on such a deep level. There are not words to describe how fulfilling, deeply joyful, energized and inspired that week was for me, I’m still on a high from it all these months later. I haven’t finished the painting yet but when I do I’ll post finished photos….
