Thriller Thursdays starts with a book that will make you question human behaviour. 🧠🔥📚 Lightseekers by Femi Kayode follows Philip Taiwo, an investigative psychologist who is hired by a grieving father to find out why his son and two other university students were mobbed and burned alive. As Philip investigates, the story becomes a disturbing exploration of mob psychology, jungle justice, group mentality, and the circumstances that can turn ordinary people into participants in horrific violence. What I particularly loved about this book is how it goes beyond the mystery. It forces us to examine why people join mobs, why violence can become contagious, and how easily justice can be replaced by collective anger. And because jungle justice is a very real issue in Nigeria, Lightseekers feels painfully relevant. If you love thrillers with social commentary, psychological depth, and a mystery that makes you think, add this one to your TBR. Have you read Lightseekers? What did you think? #ThrillerThursdays #Lightseekers #FemiKayode #NigerianLiterature #AfricanLiterature ThrillerBooks PsychologicalThriller BookRecommendation NigerianBooks JungleJustice MobPsychology BookstagramNigeria BookTokNigeria AfricanBooks BookLovers

Book Review of: Gaslight by @femikayode_author • • Rating: 4 Stars • • Philip Taiwo does it again, and this time it brings things a little closer to home for most of us: the church. Tbh, the things that go on behind the scenes of some churches are sickeningly disgusting! Man no be God!! You are not God—stop parading yourselves as such!! Philip Taiwo's cases always have such a unique twist to them. When I read Lightseekers, I was surprised by how the whole case came together at the end, and Gaslight is no different. An influential bishop's wife, Folasade Dawodu, goes missing, and Philip is asked by his own sister, who attends the very same church, to look into it. And I thought, if this is a missing person's case, why is Philip Taiwo being brought in? Which can only mean something sinister is at play! I love that Chika is back in this novel, and even better, Chika has such a sharp mind, and I am here for it. The humanization of Philip Taiwo was something else entirely. You would think that an investigative psychologist wouldn't have problems, but the author proves that Philip is just a man, like any of us, who goes through things. The issue with his daughter was one that had me glued to the pages because I wanted to see how Philip and her mom were going to tackle it. What were they going to say to their daughter to make her stop believing everything those bullies had made her believe? How?! And again, I wasn't disappointed. I must say that I was a little sceptical of Philip's wife's approach, but at least it went well. 😅 You, Bishop Dawodu, you are a demonic bastard!!!! How can you claim to know God and preach the gospel, yet still do such devilish things to your wife!! How?! Don't you think about your wife's physical and mental well-being?! I feel so bad that Folasade could only think of one way for her so-called bishop of a husband to get punished. Folasade, you don't deserve what happened to you. Solid 4-star read. It demanded my attention from start to finish, and I can't wait for the next book Femi Kayode writes. #bookreviewbyrayo #gaslightbyfemikayode

😦😦😦 Let me exaggerate small but... WHAT DID I JUST READ?? 😂😂😭 So all this can happen in a church?? I honestly thought we just go, fellowship peacefully, say the closing prayer and head home. Meanwhile, @femikayode_author said, “Not today!” 😂😭 Please tell me this is an extreme example of church finances because there’s no wayyyy 😭😂 I couldn’t get a hardcopy, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Lara? Somebody should hold me before I knock her through the pages 😭😂 Such a rat! Big respect for Folasade ✌🏾❤️ Chika? Loved him☺️ Taiwo? Solid 😌 Abubakar? 😂😂 What a character! This book had me shocked, entertained, annoyed and laughing all at once. Definitely a must-read! ⭐⭐⭐⭐ @bloomsburypublishing

Saturday Stack! 📚 + London Visit! 📖 Happy end of the week all! I've just got back from a trip with my girlfriend to London! We had an amazing time seeing Hamilton the musical 🎭 & having an explore! On one of the days, we had a spare few hours where I couldn't resist popping into the famous Daunt Books in Marylebone (@dauntbooks)! This was definitely a bucket list thing to do as a book lover! The way the books are organised by country, rather than genre, was super interesting! Though I'd promised myself I'd put the book buying on the back burner for a while, I couldn't resit picking up a few books whilst I was there! Who wouldn't?! - Featured are: 📖 - 'Betrayal' by Lilja Sigurđardóttir (@sigurdardottirlilja) 📖 - 'Gaslight' by Femi Kayode (@femikayode_author) 📖 - 'The Collector' by Anne Mette Hancock (@annemette.hancock) - I'm super excited to read all of these, especially 'Gaslight' which is the second book in the Philip Taiwo series that I've been desperate to continue! Hopefully, I'll be able to get to them all as soon as possible! - Have you read any of these? Have you visited Daunt Books before? - Have a lovely weekend, everyone! #bookblogger #bookblog #bookblogging #bookbloggers #bookstagramuk

We know you know. Talk and you're next. Here is what you should read next, and the app did the finding. A quiet perch, waiting. Gaslight by @femikayode_author is the second investigation of Dr Philip Taiwo, and it opens with a scandal. In a megachurch in Ogun State, Nigeria, the beloved and ultra-wealthy Bishop Jeremiah Dawodu has been arrested for the murder of his wife, Folasade. The church's First Lady has vanished without a trace. No body has been found, but the police claim they have damning evidence. So the church hires Philip Taiwo, fresh from solving the case that made his name, to investigate. And almost at once, Taiwo senses the shape of the trap. He is not there to find the truth. He is there to clear the bishop, a hired gun with a title. Folasade, it turns out, was young, outspoken, no favourite of the congregation, and prone to vanishing for stretches. The easy story is that she simply left. But as Taiwo and his associate Chika dig, the easy story falls apart, and what lies beneath it, church money, state collusion, blind faith turned into a weapon, is far bigger and far more dangerous than one missing woman. What to expect. A crime novel that thinks. Femi Kayode has said he is impatient with thrillers that hunt the killer and ignore the society that produced the crime, and Gaslight is the answer to that. Taiwo solves through psychology and observation, not car chases. Along the way you get a vivid, unsparing portrait of megachurch power, police corruption, and the daily texture of investigating somewhere with no databases and sparse records. S.A. Cosby called Kayode an unparalleled wordsmith. The New York Times Book Review praised how he refracts the police procedural through what actually ails the setting. The cover carries Harriet Tyce calling it powerful and shocking, and Janice Hallett calling it a triumph. See a book you like? Snap the cover or scan the barcode with @hootperch and it lands on your shelf in seconds. #HootPerch #Gaslight #FemiKayode #CrimeFiction #CrimeThriller #BookTok #AfricanNoir #Nigerian
